if the label is self adhesive, then you can just stick it on and
       rock on
if it's a waterslide decal, you can also just slide it on, let
it dry for 24hrs and rock on
waterslide or dry transfer decals are semi permanent, these will
eventually detach (it can take a while, even years, but it will
       happen)
so if it's a waterslide decal, and you want it permanently fixed
onto your headstock, for the best result:
       1. take off strings, tuners, string guides
       2. wrap your guitar and guitar neck in paper, tape off the sides
and the back of the headstock
       3. clean the headstock, has to be dust free and smooth
       4. cutout the waterslide decal, you want it to have rounded
contours, and cutout as close as possible to the actual decal
       5. wipe a damp cloth over the headstock
       5. immerse the decal in a bowl of lukewarm water, and wait for
30-40 seconds, the decal will curl up and start to detach from
the transfer paper, you want it to stay on the transfer paper
       6. so you can take it out of the watter by putting your fingers
(left hand) on the transfer paper
       7. and then put your fingers onto the headstock and with a
finger from your other right hand slide it into place
       8. once the decal is on the headstock, you can align and adjust
the position by carefully sliding it by its edges on the
       headstock surface.
       9. inspect your work, make sure there are air bubbles, creases
       or wrapped edges
       10. with a dry cloth or paper towel, carefully wipe off the
water, look again for bubbles or creases and make the final
       adjustments if necessary
       11. leave it to dry for 24 hrs
       12. spray on thin layers of clear coat lacquer, try to work
around the decal first, you want to build up a layer around the
decal first and then (after 5-6 layers) spray over the decal as
well, like this the contour of the decal should "sink" in the
       clearcoat
       13. keep on adding clearcoat layers until you get an even layer
over the decal and the headstock (might takes 12-15 layers)
       14. take your time, allow each layer to dry for half an hour or
so, 3 layers/day, clean the surface in between coats, dust free
       15. you're done
if it's a dry transfer decal, just position it on the headstok
and rub it on, add a couple of layers of clearcoat, allow it to
       dry and you're all set

Thanks bieke. I got the water slide decal Saturday, but have
been either busy at work or too tired from it to mess around
with the decal. Got a new set of strings for it as well. Really
need to take the time to get the decal dealt with so I can get
back to PLAYING the guitar, because it is little jewel!

Followed y'all's advice to the letter. Gonna let it dry for a
day or two then hit it with lacquer!

looking great, go easy on the lacquer, practice on a piece of
       paper or cardboard
       you want ultrathin layers
from your pic I'd say you only need 2-3 coats, I can't see the
       contour of the decal
       nice job so far

First coat of lacquer down. Covered everything but the label.
Practiced on apiece of paper, as suggested by The Belgian
       Wizard.
Turned out the spray pattern coming out of the can was pretty
close to a perfect fit for the label.
I guess I did ok. Can't really tell I did anything at all.
So Dano. Imma mail you the other label. Would you like me to
have some more run off for you?? would be the least I can do...
