Learned a new word..."Hypernormalization"

"HyperNormalization" - When everyone knows the system is failing
and politicians and citizens are resigned to maintaining a
pretense of a functioning society.
I think we are either there already, or very close to being
there.

I believe the system is failing. I think it still functions -
maybe it dysfunctions, come to think of it. I believe it to be
fixable, but whether there's the will yet (at this point in
time) is another matter.
I believe that money is the major culprit. As I understand it,
Citizens United won a court battle against limiting corporate
money of political campaigns. Or something of the sort. A
local mega-wealthy personal injury attorney (John Morgan -
located here in Orlando) donated a couple of million bucks (I
can't remember the exact amount) of money to the cause of
medical weed here in Florida. Sheldon Adelson, a mega-wealthy
Las Vegas gambling magnate funded ANTI weed money to fund
advertising against medical weed. It lost at around 58%
favoring medical - it needed 60%. The next election cycle John
Morgan donated more millions of dollars and medical weed passed
with around 70%.
I've heard it said that around 80% of the population favors
reasonable background checks before buying guns. The NRA has a
history of funding opponents (of background checks) in political
campaigns. Hell, the idiots (assholes legislators) in D.C.
reversed an Obama rule limiting access to the severely mentally
ill. Legislators opposing the NRA's wishes find themselves with
deep pocketed (NRA funded) opponents in the next election.
Logic and reason have been suspended. Money rules out system. I
heard many people criticizing Obamacare in the last several
years. No references to fixing what was wrong with it. Only
parroting what they'd heard others say. What about fixing what's
wrong with it ? Well from some explanations I've heard, the
big money interests kept their wish list in the law. Medical
cost transparency ? Non-existent. Government negotiating with
pharmaceutical companies for reasonable drug prices ? No way.
The money players get their way. And it's been reported that
the Washington legislators have to spend significant amounts of
time on the phone drumming up campaign fund donations.
I know things go in cycles. I hope that the electorate gets fed
up at some point and puts measures to limit the big money in our
campaigns.
I also think people are confusing ideology with news. Ted
Koppel made this point to Sean Hannity (Sean Hannity is a cancer
on the concept of telling the truth in my opinion). Cherry
picking news facts while ignoring the inconvenient facts are the
preferred method when things don't suit his agenda. People have
adopted the practice of culturally identifying with their
preferred news source. If a new outlet reports news you don't
like, they're fake.

Your absolutely right IMHO Dave. Money rules everything in this
country now. That's why we have one of the greediest people on
the planet trying to run the show.
The Citizens United decision by SCOTUS was one of the worst ever
made. It sold us to the Corporations. I fear this country, like
our environment, may have already passed the tipping point
insofar as our democracy is concerned. As long as untruths can
be sold as truths to the people, and the people are too lazy to
dig for the truth, we'll get what we deserve as government.
People generally just want to believe what they believe is the
truth...And the News organizations just feed us what they will
keep us looking at them and upping their ratings.
I think Hannity is a shill for the GOP...And the hard right
contingent of it.

Since this is a political thread, I will stick with this in
introducing a slight turn.
A new twist, for me anyway. I read a kinda lengthy article on
my phone. It was a Bloomberg piece, but the NYT may have
introduced the information first - I'm not sure.
The article explained certain business associations Trump has
had in the past. One guy specifically, Felix Sater, was both
mafia connected AND Russian mob connected. He was convicted for
stock fraud. Senior citizens were induced to buy stocks that
had prices artificially inflated then the fraudsters cashed in
and the victims were stuck with basically worthless junk
stocks). Apparently this is called a "pump and dump". Earlier
on in his "career" Sater had been a stock broker on Wall
Street. Felix Sater is a piece of work. He did about a year in
prison for cutting up another broker's face with a broken
cocktail glass in a bar. The guy needed about 110 stitches. In
more recent years, he created web sites propagating lies about
someone who crossed him - a guy named Jody Kriss.
Sater was convicted in a fraud case (the pump and dump) but
turned informant for about 10 years and never had to do jail
time. He had Russian money connections and was quite the wheeler
dealer. He became associated with Don the Con (our genius holy
leader - the President) in some real estate deals. There was
also allegations of money laundering.
I believe Trump's business associations with Felix Sater are
part of the stink surrounding Donald Trump. Part of the reason
he doesn't want investigations to continue. I read that Robert
Mueller has hired some investigators with expertise in white
collar crime and money laundering etc.
My neighbor told me she thinks Trump was given the job of
president by none other than God. Holy Shit !

Sonvabitch! It stands to reason that Trump would be in cahoots
with shady fuckers all over the world though. Mueller is a rock
however, and him being appointed Special Counsel may end up
being Big Orange's undoing.(I hope).
You're neighbor is fucking scary though. What the hell do you
even say to that? Sent from God? That bitch is bent all up.
