I know exactly what you mean. I've talked politics with Dave
here, and we've had no arguments at all, that I can recall. But
we're of like minds on most issues too. I posted a thing about
the Las Vegas shooting here last year however and the place blew
up. Lost Imp for quite a while, I thank the heavens he found his
way back. Lost Luke forever....And I really miss the guy. He's
always the coolest guy in the room...Ya know what I mean?
But I've done nothing but make enemies talking politics over at
TOOJ. So now I just stay away from those conversations there. In
fact I pretty much just visit the American Music Room and then
bail. Pretty much abandoned HCOJ because it's just a few people,
and mostly CF3 posting mostly inane shit.
[/quote]
I think I'm about done with TOOJ as well. I enjoy bantering,
talking shit, poking fun---I do NOT enjoy hate and I don't want
to participate in it anymore. Got too much of it going with too
many people there. Finding myself all too willing to try to hurt
people back and that's not what or who I want to be.
Not sure I want to go back to HC at all either. OJ is vapid
anymore and PP is another hate pit. Even the music-specific
boards are all too often full of people looking to take/give
offense. Of course I'll stay until Freeman finishes my OM, but
after that, we'll see. An awful lot of arbitrary, unevenly
applied, make-it-up-as-you-go, because-I-said-so moderation.
Maybe I'm just over internet forums in general.

I still believe that political ideas should be discussed and
debated. There is a certain mentality that's very common these
days. We probably all suffer from it in varying degrees.
Identity/tribal politics seems to have invaded our national
consciousness. Critical thinking seems to have been put aside.
I'm hoping that one of these days critical thinking makes a
comeback. If some politicians get their way by infusing tax
dollars into religious schools, I'm afraid we may become
something like a Christian variation of Saudi Arabia and their
state funded Islamic schools.
I'm glad I'm heading into old age. Not sure I want to witness
some of the climate catastrophes and misery that I worry about.
I do figure I've got maybe 20-25 more years one this side of
the dirt. I'm afraid of some of the ugliness I may be
witnessing during my remaining years.

im getting a bit anxious for you guys. some of the stuff he's
saying at the moment is pretty dangerous. about not necessarily
leaving if he loses the election. i mean, what do you do if that
happens and he doesn't go? you can't arrest him. it would have
to either be a military coup, or a civil war. it sounds
outlandish, but these things happen on a regularly basis all
over the world when a dictator decides he's not leaving. no
country is immune to that stuff. stay safe boys.

I have faith that the Constitution will Trump Trump. There will
be no support by any entity for keeping Trump in office if Biden
is certified the winner.
Trump is talking shit, that is all.

i trust your judgment jim. i just think the rhetoric is
completely off and quite disturbing. especially for an american
president. it's not even a left v right thing for me. in my
lifetime, i've only ever voted for a party that has lost an
election. and even if they did win, i wouldn't vote for them
again if the prime minister hinted that he might refuse to leave
office if they lost the next one. scary times, but i know fuck
all about any of it really. we don't have a written constitution
in the UK, so it's difficult to understand how much influence it
has in countries that have one.

Trump is a seriously deranged shitbag. But we don’t have kings
here. In theory, no one is entitled to office.
I want him out. Bad.
That doesn’t mean I like Biden. I just think he is at least
rational.

Not trying to argue politics here, just want to make an
observation or two.
I agree pretty much down the line about DJ Trump. I am NOT a
fan. My biggest complaint with him is how divisive he's been. In
fact, this trend has been escalating through the last few
administrations, but he's stepped it up to unprecedented levels.
It is the opposite of what this country desperately needs.
But---respectfully---to categorize Biden as "rational" is, to my
mind, a big stretch. I find him to be anything BUT rational. He
can't even speak coherently. He has no grasp of the facts of any
given topic he's speaking on. I see a puppet.
Overall, my take on our current situation is this: if these two
wazoos are the best options our system offers us, then the
system is very badly broken.
"Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon
Going to the candidate's debate
Laugh about it, shout about it, when you've got to choose
Every way you look at it, you lose"

Well, “Rational” may not have been the right word. But yeah
Simon pretty much summed it up for us.
We have poor choices for the Executive office. But Trump has
done, it seems, everything possible to pit us all against each
other. He has delusions of grandeur that a man in his position
should not have.
We can discuss politics Dano. I just don’t like them creeping
into every conversation.
