in a state of flux

the last festival was a lot of work. i neglected to check my
groundcloth so a sudden tropical rain squall soaked everything
but my electronics. rom the ground up... trying to dry out
carpets, tapestries, runners and silks as well as an area for
guests to sit kept me busy... too busy. an engineer in our camp
was helping me hang square stuff inside a round dome and asked
the obvious...” why do all this?”. my answer was simply to
frame a mood set an atmosphere... his response was liberating
on several levels! he said he had wandered in when i was doing
a soundcheck and there was nothing inside but me and gongs. no
color, just white dome... empty... a blank screen for the
imagination... he asked me to consider that some peeps dont
know they have the key to get out of the frame... the box... i
have so innocently placed them into... he liked my frame, but
as he continued, all i could think about was that a weight had
lifted and i too had been set free... i literally danced a step
and hugged him!
Regenesis is the name im using for the current incarnation of
the travelling gong. pulled the trigger on a 7x16 covered cargo
trailer yesterday, taking delivery monday. setting it up as a
solar generator for powering all performances at my dome and
setting up charging station for phones and peripherals as an
opportunity to teach about the immediate necessity of
alternative power. it also gives me a very private “green room”
in the middle of any public space... i might need a nap while
im playing on the lawn at the white house...

Probably my least favourite aspect of gigging is the
mechanics/logistics required to make it all happen. The best
band I was in, at least regarding this aspect, required me to
show up with a horn, two mics with stands and two mic cables. It
was awesome!
Sounds like the new trailer is going to serve you well, Oh Great
Green One. Sorry you got flooded out last time. :(
Break a leg!

Hauling and setting up equipment is the chore gigging musicians
must endure. Most people, I believe, think that all the stuff
just appears magically.

Back when I was on the road, one old bar manager fellow got it.
He said, as I was pushing a coffin sized road case full of Par
cans, "I hate moving, and you poor bastards have to do it every
week. I dunno how you do it." ;D
