It's COLD

-14o with a wind chill of -32o.
These are good honest American farenheits, none o' that sissy
commie celsius crap.
Fireplace is roaring. Faucets are dripping. Got a big-legged
woman to cuddle up to.
Not usually one to complain about the weather but DANG son, this
is COLD!
...new boards, huh?

Fuck Son, I know it is where you are...I've been watching the
reports from up there...That shit ain't fer us Southern boyz.
Hell if we get a hard freeze (anything below 28F) They close
down the schools and roll up the freeways. Is this the coldest
weather you've seen up there? How long have you lived in
Michigan? You a native?
I'm a refrigeration guy ya know. -15f is what I like Ice Cream
cases to run. Fucking hell...I wouldn't wanna LIVE in one
though.

Could be the coldest---damn close if not.
Born and bred right here. My family lived in Fenton (next town
east of here) when I was born, spent most of my childhood in
Linden (next town east of that). Moved to Holly, where I live
now, in the middle 80s. All over the world in between.
JAN83---driving a 57 Chevy panel truck from San Diego to
Michigan---broke down just outside of Amarillo---yeah, it can
get cold in Texas!

Amarillo is at the top of the State...So...yeah...it gets way
colder up there. 57 Chevy panel trucks are going for fortunes
now days. You ever watch Mecom or Barrett-Jackson? I love
watching those auctions...Love seeing all the Old Steel.

Love the Old Iron, especially trucks from the 40s and 50s. If I
was a rich man...
I poured a lot of time and money into that one. Sold it when
some fool offered me $20k (it had a busted connecting rod---you
don't build a 383stroker to drive it slow) and I probably still
lost money on it. This was late 80s dollars, mind you. By then I
had my handicapped-accessible van built (I was in a wheelchair
in those years). One of the ones that got away---
Went above 0 yesterday for the first time in several days. Minus
six now, forecast high of 15 today. Supposed to break 50 in a
few days. Crazy!

I'm guessing you had a Mopar in it? I'm not hip to all the Hot
Rodder lingo, but my kid brother has built several cars. His
latest is a '67 Barracuda and it has a 383 stroker in it. He
built the engine himself...Well as a matter of fact did all the
work himself. he built a Road Runner before that. Drove to Ohio
and bought it from a guy up there. Pulled the motor and rebuilt
it, then turned around after he finished it and sold it for a
nice profit. A '70 Dart before that, a '70 Cougar before
that...Camaros, Novas, Vegas...He's been doing it since he was a
kid. he and my Dad built his first truck...Think it was a '62
Ford. Put a 429 in it. I remember he could not seem to keep back
tires on it. Lol...

"383 stroker" is a 350ci Chevy small block (preferably 4-bolt
mains) with the crankshaft and harmonic balancer from a 400ci
small block. This one was punched .030" overbore, pushing about
400hp through a high-stall th400 trans---I think I twisted two
rearends out of it before I got smart and put in a 12-bolt from
a 1-ton truck and ladder-barred it.
Mopar did, indeed, build a 383ci engine---but this one was pure
GM.
Oh, the mods I did to this truck! Retrofit a Nova front end,
disc brakes, power steering, complete interior remodel, built a
custom dash, tilt/tele steering post, custom wiring harness,
stripped most of the body trim, filled and painted it (candy
apple maroon with just a hint of gold metalfalke---lacquer, of
course), rechromed the grill, bumpers, light bezels, door
handles &c---I could go on and on.
And I only have ONE photo of it today :(
