       Thanks, man. :)
It's still a bit fresh, but to be honest, I'm sad, but I'm also
glad his suffering has ended. He struggled with dementia and
Alzheimer's for close to 18 years.
It was difficult to watch. I can't imagine what it was like to
       be him. :shitsammich:

I get it. Watched my dad die for several years, slowly and
painfully. Now I got it too.
       Kinda makes ya wonder...

       It does, indeed. :-\
The last few years have scared the crap outta me, to be honest.

Shoot, mang. They gonna cut me from collarbone to pubic bone and
pup-tent my ribcage, shut my heart off, cut parts off it and sew
new parts outta dead people back in.
       I'm scared shitless.

       I don't blame you, brother.
When you put it that way, it sounds especially terrifying. :(
You strike me as one of those "tough to kill" types.
It shall serve you well, methinks.

I well know the horrors of watching a loved one go through the
cruel machinations of dementia. That's how my Mother went.
Watching them disappear in bits.....Until there is nothing but a
shell that used to carry everything that was them....
The Women in my family have a horrid history of languishing in
       painful long struggles...Cancers, Dementia, Alzheimer's.
The Males have it significantly easier. Sudden, massive heart
attacks. My Dad at 58, My Grandad's at 48 and 67, respectively.
I'm 66...And determined to beat the odds. I doubt I'll beat them
by that much. I haven't spent a night in a hospital since I was
       3.
       I think I might be due....Oh that's right...I'm not
       superstitious.

Hey AJ, we have that hospital thing in common. I've never
spent the night in a hospital. At age 8 I had my tonsils taken
out (seems that used to be a standard thing) but was taken home.
I've had 3 incidents with bicycling injuries that set me back,
       but no hospital.
Regarding watching parents and their degenerating health. I
watched both parents go thru it, about 15 years apart. I won't
go into details. But I will say that I've become outspoken about
my desire for euthanasia at the point in my life when the
decline is so miserable that death is preferable to life. I've
not come up with a plan yet, but the idea is to come up with a
list of maybe 7 issues. If 4 out of 7 criteria were met, it
would be time for that magic potion, and an exit from mortal
       life.

       Well, I'm superstitious.
It doesn't always bode well to tempt fate, methinks.

We have a relatively new medically assisted dying law here in
       Canada.
From what I understand, it isn't an easy or simple process to
qualify for, and sometimes it can be difficult to find a
sympathetic doctor willing to help once/if you do qualify.
