if the guitar got damaged in shipping, UPS at least owes you an
       explanation
did the box show any sign of handling damage ?
anyway, I was looking at the thread at HCAG and noticed that FK
started the pore filling end of April
and started the lacquer finish beginning of May and he stated he
would spray 20 coats and 2 weeks curing time (that is relatively
       short)
no mention what kind of pore filler was used and Luthierlac
       2079-CLE17937 nitro lacquer was used
product information sheet advises to use vinyl nitro sealer
and to apply 6-7 coats of the nitro lacquer and a hardening time
of 1 week, so for 20 coats I'd reckon a hardening time of at
least 3 weeks is needed ?

Could be that FK applied too much sanding sealer. Since it is
softer than the lacquer that goes above it, building up a lot of
sanding sealer can make the harder lacquer above it more prone
to chipping and cracking. Or perhaps the 20 coats were still not
sufficiently cured and temperature fluctuations during shipping
could have caused the lacquer cracks ? But if it's into the
spruce, that would be caused by hmmm, UPS.
       ::)
I don't know and I certainly don't want to offend FK in any way,
       he probably knows best.

[/quote]I admit that I don't know enough about nitrocellulose
lacquer to have an informed opinion. I believe FK has the
experience to know what he's doing (no offense intended to you),
and from what I've seen of his work, he's pretty meticulous.
The shipping box shows no damage. I speculate that a great
weight was placed on the box while it was flat on its back, or
that it was impacted hard straight on to its face. I've seen
temp/humidity cracks and I've seen impact damage, and this looks
like the latter, to me. We'll probably never know for sure.
Elderly Instruments in Lansing MI, a little over an hour from
here, has a world-class repair department. I may have them look
at it and give me a quote. I'm sure not going to ship it back to
Washington state and let UPS break it some more. Or I may just
accept it as part of the story of my handmade OM. Sometimes ya
just gotta shrug, say WTF, and go on.
       Appreciate your input, bieke :)

Sounds like a solid endorsement of Sir Freeman’s skills!
Glad you’re a happy guy. You deserve it! :)
