       Got my W2 today.
By: AJ Date: January 8, 2019, 7:26 pm

Made $8000 less this year. Of course, I knew that. The company
didn't have a very good year on the whole so I didn't get a very
       big year end bonus.
However, since I started getting SS checks in August, it offset
       the loss somewhat.
Will find out how making less money and getting SS will affect
me tax wise here in a bit.
rankles me that I have to pay taxes on SS. I mean, it's money I
       put in there. Sux.

Sorry for your monetary loss. I had the impression that
commercial refrigeration was like gold. I suppose, of course,
       gold goes up and down.
I entered the world of medicare last August. Right now, as I
type this, I'm waiting on hold with Medicare to confirm they
have my automatic bank draft set up correctly for Part B. This
       stuff if confusing to me.

It is down here. Service work is our bread and butter, but
putting new stores in and serious remodels of same are where we
rake in real profits. Have not had any new stores to put in.
Some minor remodels. The supermarket field is saturated down
here. But business in grocery stores, especially in larger urban
areas, is down. Millennials and professionals alike, simply do
not cook at home. They eat out, and evermore frequently, order
out and have their dinners delivered. Hence, new stores for
independent grocers, the heart of our business, just ain't
happening. So my end of the profit sharing suffers as well.
I've had years when my year end bonuses exceeded $20k. Also, I'm
not working the overtime I used to. We have several younger
staff now, and the three of us at the top took ourselves out of
regular weekend and night duty. Whereas we used to be on call 1
week out of every 4, we now are on only once every 11 weeks. So,
I like the rest, but there were weeks on call where I'd make an
       extra $2k.
All in all it's ok. My house has been paid for a couple of years
now. I've paid off most of the credit cards I had to run up
during times when my wife was really ill, and lawyers I used
during the court fights for the Lad.
But we're going to need a new car eventually...The Camry has 90k
       on it.

I don't know what shape your Camry is in, but 90K is the break
in point for many Toyotas. I have often told the story of my
little Toyota truck. Back in '97 I bought a Honda Civic. No
regrets about that. But I sold my Toyota truck with 187,000
miles. It still purred like a kitten. Only problem was the air
       conditioning was broken.
My advice (since you didn't ask), is to start a car purchase
fund. Whatever you can afford to save monthly. Then when you
have to buy a car, maybe you can plop down a hefty sum. This
has been my method in recent years.
Just occurred to me, I'm one of those people who don't cook. My
method is to drive to Chipotle and purchase a burrito bowl to
go. I eat half one day, and half the next day. This costs a
bit less than $4 per day.

I've been saving money for the car or any other unforeseen
eventuality. The Camry is in very good shape actually. I've
always taken care of my cars, and done most of the minor repairs
       and maintenance myself.
Because of my wife's back problems, we don't take long road
trips any longer, so 90k on a 15 year old car isn't bad really.
You don't live on burritos do you?
I mean you could I guess.

No burritos - burrito bowls. A cardboard bowl with brown rice,
black beans (extra beans please) , fajita veggies (grilled green
peppers and onions) , chicken, diced tomatoes and corn. Real
food. None of that doughy burrito shell.

Do they know you're alive? If they figure out you are they'll be
coming for the fillings in your teeth.
