Nasty day...How I amused my self...

....My Niece sent me a guitar rack for Christmas. I watched the
Texans game, then put it together. It'll be nice not having to
get a guitar case out of the closet, take it out and put the
case back in the closet. Now I have them within easy reach...
       Now....I need more guitars!!!

I think a rack like that is the only way to go.
I toyed with the idea of a lap steel a couple years back. I
decided it probably wasn't justified since I probably wouldn't
want to spend the time needed to play it. I should watch a
YouTube video on how to play, and see what's up.

basic lap steel technique is pretty straight forward. my
grandfather played lap steel in a party band during
prohibition... basically running shine from michigan to the mid
ohio valley... and was the first guitar i learned. with your
keyboard base, you should pick up the patterns quickly. melodic
string work by ear isnt tough once you learn control of the
bar... minor chords, sevenths, etc are the challenge and thus
the fun but standard blues based stuff is probably easier than
       you think.

Especially if you employ open tunings.
The first electric guitar I ever put my hands on was a lap
       steel. Was a friend's Dad's.
A lot of people associate pedal and lap steel with country
music. but a lot of guys rock out with them.
David Lindley...Did all those great lap solos on Jackson
       Browne's "Running on Empty"

Robert Randolph...A young guy that Eric Clapton tuned into early
in his career and had him at the first Crossroads festival.

Rusty Young, of Poco fame. I couldn't really find any Youtoobs
of a good example of it, but he used to crank his up and totally
       rock it as well.
Like most electric instruments, add enough gain and volume and
you can make a Baptist hymnal holler like a scalded dog.
