IIRC Llama you're somewhere in the Tallahassee area. I caught
some news story about the pecan trees in S. Georgia being mowed
over by winds in one of the hurricanes. Good luck with any
       fortifications.

dave, our whole farm got blown over... to give an idea on
proximity, we had 4 minutes and a few seconds of eye... we got
blasted. twice i thought all of us were going to die. didnt
have electric for a month... no heat for another three weeks..
wife going through 7 major surgeries, in a wheelchair and her
doctors and hospital gone... two more surgeries left to do...
our transport van... gone... we have a roof on our house,
which is more than thousands here have... no animals or humans
were injured. but everything is gone... if... if we stay
here, we will dig in. my first project for the coming year is a
real storm shelter. and a new barn. and fences... and cutting
trees... and more cutting trees... and an off grid,
       underground home...

I'd think the water table in your area would be tricky to make a
underground home work....But I've seen it work down here...And
south of me no less. Takes a lot of concrete and a robust water
       trap.
Would most def make the utility bills super low though. Earth is
a superior insulator. Down in Brazoria county they are even
closer to sea level than we are. (We're about 50 feet above it).
But their Ute bills are like $20 in the heat of summer and nil
in winter thanks to cheap natural gas and a solar setup.

i have the good fortune of having my home on top of a hill...
its like the second highest spot in the county im thinking we
are 186 ft above sea level.

Extremely good fortune. Meet the Press today focused on climate
change. I should rewatch it. But in one video segment a guy
from South Florida warned us in Orlando that they'll be heading
our way eventually. Weather refugees. I don't know how high we
are considered to be. I'm sure I can ask the Google Brain.

Wikipedia said 82 feet elevation here in Orlando. I guess I
need to ask the Google Brain the Maimi elevation. The Google
       Brain says 6 1/2 " for Miami. I dunno.

I would think the Florida Keys have quite a lot to fear from
       rising sea levels.
You know, the thing is, The USA and Europe can't do these things
alone. The things being the hard decisions nessecary to reverse
climate change. Europe is making more progress than we are. The
Chinese, The Russians, the developing countries are more
concerned with growing/maintaining their respective economies.
There is also this one unavoidable fact. There is a finite
amount of oil and gas in the ground. We use petroleum for so
much other stuff, we really can't afford to burn it. The fact
that we are poisoning ourselves at the same time we are
depleting resources it took hundreds of millions years to create
       is absolute stupidity.
