Up my ass everyday is people driving while looking at and using
their phones. It makes me bonkers. It's irresponsible,
dangerous, and just generally pisses me off.

Weird weather is up my ass today. My first service call was in
Klein..About ten miles north of H-Town. When I left, it was 55
degrees. Drove to Galveston, it was 78.
Drove back to H-Town, it was 60.
       it's disconcerting.

It's hitting the mid-80's here most days lately. The TV guy
said this weather is about a month early. Makes me wonder what
       summer will be like.

Beike, how did your gig go ? Did it go-go ? Has it went ?
Regarding jazz chords, generally speaking they're extended to
       add 9ths, 11ths , 13ths - instead of just 7 chords. Over many
years of struggling with jazz standards, the big thing IMO is
the chord voicings. Which notes you play (in the chord) and
which ones you leave out. I remember when I first discovered
(for myself) Little Feat - not in their harmony but in their
grooves - their rhythms. It seemed to me what they left out, to
create their knockout syncopations, was as important as what
       they played.
After I became aware of patterns in jazz harmony, it became much
easier. There are a ton of ii V styled chord changes.
And iii vi ii V. The bass is usually the biggest clue to the
       chord movement.
You guys may already know this stuff.

Been a Feat Fan for as long as I can remember...They had a mix
of Jazz, rock funk and blues all their own. I really dug Paul
Barriere and Lowell George's interplay on guitars...But hell the
whole band was great..And great songwriting..

I come from a punk background, I don't know any music theoy at
all, after years I know the basic chords, can name them, but to
me it's just little mind drawings
to prepare the jazz gig, I had to learn some funny chords, and
remember them, and I practiced some scales, something I never
       did before
all in all, a very refreshing
       the gig went extremely well
I somehow pulled it off, there was a very decent rhythm section,
       drums, bass, keys
there were 6 horns, trumpet, trombone, tenor and alt sax, flute
and bass clarinet, and 2 singers
and 2 guitar players, but only one single channel amp
the other player was an experienced jazz player, he knew all the
chords and could do fast solos
I was the opposite, I tried to follow the chords as good as I
could and I either came in too late, or just skipped chords and
prepared to be ready for the next chord change
the jazz folks (none of them knew I am not a jazz player) said
       my phrasing was interesting
instead of fast solos, I did short solos, with few notes,
repetitive phrases, very slow, passing the solo on to one of the
       other players
they said I had a laidback style, that was bluesy
and they told me I was welcome to their next week's gig
I gently declined, saying I had a busy week cming
       ;D
(true, I have a busy week coming, next 3-4 weeks are going to
       be)

Sounds like it went well for you...In 'Murica...We call that
       "Bluffin' our way through it"
I'd have soiled myself probably........ ::)
+2 for courage on your part.
I don't know anything about music theory either......It
       shows.... :))

It sounds like you know more than you thought. And you hung
with the jazz guys - with interesting phrasing to boot.

well, the set was 15 standards, the other guitar player played
most, I just did a couple
the other guitar player was playing start to end, very
       prominent, a bit too much
I went for the less is more approach
I just let the rhythm section carry it, filled in with a chord
here and there (a bit too late, hence the intersting phrasing),
a short lick here and there, kept my solos very short and basic
and leaving plenty of room for the other players
ah yes, they also complimented me on my sound, in the end I
decided to take my ES-335 instead of the Guild (Guild has no
cutaways, harder to play above 12th fret)
on the neck pickup, tone about 60% and volume 85%, turning up
all the way for solos, no pedals, no reverb
