       Hey Bieke...

       ...So.....Where's the new album?
       ...Still working on it?
Was listening to some (Now Old) Vomiteers stuff
       tonight..."UnGlued"...."Last Call" and "Collab #1"......Dinks
work with his sax...And that Tuba line he layed down in "Last
Call". He was really off the charts and on the money wasn't he?
You really did some stellar work there Bieke....On all the
stuff....You carried the lion's share on all that stuff...The
work you put in on all the numbers...Corralling my back ups on
Bucky's stuff and your magnificent tracks for "Walrus". Imp
fucking nailed the vocals on that one.......
       Ah.....Nostalgia....

       It’s a shame we didn’t collab more.

...I don't think it's a shame at all....I think we did some good
stuff....And every thing that went out was pretty damn good...No
one's fault if the World at Large didn't notice...And not a
       tragedy that they didn't.
It was a brief, shiny little stretch of time. But it's ours
       forever....

       what a coincidence
I showed the Vomiteers page after the All Things Automatic band
       practice yesterday
and we listened to and watched Last Call (the YouTube video)
       good times
       what I've been doing lately
finished a solo album, very poppy and commercial, did not use
any stringed instruments (that was the challenge, it only took
me 4 weeks), now working with a vocalist to add some words
a couple of years ago, I did an album the other way around
(using only stringed instruments, it took me nearly 2 years to
finish it, took a lot of time to make percussive loops on
prepared guitars, or by using drumsticks on strings, played
bass, baritone, guitar, and tenor, lots of FX, I remixed it last
       week)
what the bands been up to
MonkeyWing plan was to record and release 5 tracks on vinyl,
would be oldskool recording on tape, all analogue, talked to the
studio peeps and producer and based on their input (they
listened to our demo) we decided to ditch it, our material is
just not good enough to spend the $$$, songs work in a live
setting, loud, dirty and chaotic, but in a studio setting, it
will be nearly impossible to capture that live energy, as a
consequence, our demo sucks, and half of the band didn't even
listen to the demo, they don't care, so no vinyl any time soon
other band, well, also 5 songs finished, plan is to release
these, but in All Things Automatic, every note is evaluated and
scrutinized and debated, so it's a slow process, yesterday, the
whole practice session was devoted to a single 2 bar synth riff,
a single note riff ... so, no release any time soon, but moving
       forward
on the side, I was asked to compose and perform music for a
PhD/art project about the influence of visual stimuli on music
I received a painting and the request to look at it and make
       music
I ended up with 5 different compositions, I submitted all, but I
told them that I would watch the painting, then start making
music and then the production took over
the final composition, I just set-up for recording on guitar,
hit record, and stared at the painting while improvising, that's
the "composition" that will be used
there's going to be a release/exhibition in September of this
       year
other than that, I remixed and remastered of classical piano
recordings I did 6 years ago
by classical I mean, at the time I was a bit depressed about a
family matter, so at night I would improvise on keyboard, but as
I don't have any theoretical backgound and don't know how to
play piano, I recorded left hand and right hand separately,
merged those tracks and ended up with extremely slow and eerie
piano compositions, sounding a bit like Satie on valium
until 7-8 years ago, I was still recording everything on
4-track, digital, and before that on tape
meanwhile, I've learned a lot about mixing and mastering
techniques, have better tools, so I'm thinking of
       remixing/remastering all my old recordings
       keeping busy
       I also made chili yesterday
       in the tinkering department
I restored an italian Eko bass for a friend
       in the gearhunting department
I decided to go find another guitar with P90 pups, since I sold
my LP Special and Hondo 335 copy
found it when visiting a local luthier, went there to check out
some of his guitars for sale, and ended up with one of his early
       prototypes ...
also decided I need a small portable solid state amp for in the
house, looking at the mini amps, Katana, Vox, Blackstar,
       yadayada
all plastic toys, with on board amp models and FX, surprisingly
good sounding actually so easy to cave in and just get one of
       those,
       but decided to look elsewhere
ended up with a solid state combo from the sixties, a Schaller
       KV25
       so yeah, keeping myself busy

Sounds like it! Great post by the way. You have a lot of irons
in the fire all the time it would seem.
I'm really interested in how a Belgian makes chili?
Chili is the State dish here in Texas.
Cool that you chose Last Call to play for your band......

And "Clair" still has the most plays. >:D
       Pretty good for elevator music.

I don't know if you can call it chili
olive oil, onion, garlic, chili pepper, chili powder, paprika
powder, sliced tomato, red beans, minced beef, coriander
       slow cooking for 2 hours
cool it down, put it in the fridge
heat it up following day, put some mozarella on top
sometimes I bake bread to go with it
       :P

Well it sounds pretty close partner...I wouldn't go with
coriander myself, but to each his own.
