under the hood, I modded the tone circuit, the Greasebucket mod
tone control on my Tele is now much more useful

       I disassembled the Tele
       gonna refinish the neck
will have to wait 5-6 weeks to allow the nitro finish to cure

       I screwed up
neck slipped out of my hand while I was spraying
       fell on the grass
       have to sand it again
and the amber tinted nitro I got is not easy to apply
after sanding down, second time, it did not turn out nice
oh well, gonna let it dry and sand it lightly
       then a clear lacquer finish
it will take 5-6 weeks then befor I can finish and refit
       :P
other than that, busy as usual
       played some gigs
       recording with one band
going to record with the other band
joined a reggae band for fun, 13 piece band
and auditioned for a more serious band
       learning their repertoire now
intersting, it's a bit bluesy and my mantra alsways has been no
       blues, no covers
well, I did play some covers, for a Bowie tribute
and there was the Vomiteers Beatles cover
and a couple of jazz standards
       so now, bluesy stuff
       still learning
I check in here frequently, nothing much to contribute
       I love summer
spending more time outdoors and less time in front of the screen
ah yes, also had some health issues lately
too much going on at the same time
       minor surgery
also quit smoking 2 months ago
       finally
       eating healthy
       still drinking beer
       nothing wrong with that
       ;D

Sorry about the neck problem! Sorry to hear about your health
problems and surgery as well! :( :o
Glad to hear you're a busy one with the music, you're too
creative and talented to slack off in that department.
Did your wife's health issues get resolved for the better? Hope
       so.
Summer is my busy season at work and it's hot as hell
       here....So....I hate summer...[emoji84]
Always good to hear from you...Glad you still come around
       Buddy.... ;D

       oh man, dat Tele
       :P
so after my 3rd attempt to refinish the neck failed (the amber
tinted nitro was a bad choice)
I went with a yellow tinted nitro instead, another fail
I was fed up with it, gave it up
I ordered a new neck all together, a flamed maple neck, nitro
       finished
drilled the holes, fitted the tuners, fitted a new string tree
wanted to fit the bone saddle from the other neck, didn't fit
       temporarily fitted a plastic nut
       put the Tele back together
       and FAIL again,
strings did not align up the neck
neck felt OK but it had jumbo frets which I did not like and are
not 52 specs that I wanted
and even worse the headstock was not up to 52 specs either, more
a 60s style headstock, with trussrod access on the headstock
       instead of the heel
       triple FAIL
so much dissapoint that I decided to sell the guitar
       for peanuts
so I got plenty of potential buyers
then I was looking at my Frankentele and figured
all the trouble I went through, and it being my best build so
far, I screwed up but I shouldn't give up
I had the old neck, which was perfect, just needed a refinish (I
lost count, 4th or 5th attempt)
So I went over to a local furniture builder with my neck and
       explained it to him
he gave me some amber tinted water soluble tint and a small jar
of clear stain that he used to refurbish antique furniture
he told me to wipe the the stain on first and wipe it off, it
should bring out the grain in the wood
that apply the water based color, also wipe on/wipe off, let it
dry for a couple of hours and apply a transparant nitro finish
so I did the first step, SUCCESS
I did the second step, first wipe on/wipe off, second run,
nearly got the color right, decided to leave it like that, let
it dry, wee bit too light
then did something different, applied another coat of the clear
stain (I noticed that it did give a light darker shade to the
       wood)
       let it dry
       SUCCESS
now to the hard part, the nitro finish, I just decided to take
my time, 3 light coats with 15minutes in between, then 3 days
waiting and another 3 coats, and again 3 days waiting and
       another 3 coats
in between coats, a very light buffing
then hung the neck in the garage to let the nitro harden, I
waited 4 weeks (should have waited longer)
it was the hottest August we've had since our weather peeps have
been keeping track of temperatures (some 200 years ago), so I
       figured 4 weeks should suffice
the finish looked dull and grainy, but the final touch is the
       buffing and polishing
so I used fine grit micro mesh pads, starting at 1500 grit all
the way of to 10000 grit
       SUCCESS !
I could hardly wait to put it back together,
thing is, it still looks 100% identical as it was before (I just
took the string tree of the flamed neck because it was a genuine
       Fender part)
and put the flamed neck up for sale
       for peanuts
       it sold quickly
and I had my Tele back
the neck feels so much better now that it is refinished (with
all the failed attempts, the fret ends were sanded many times
and it now feels so silky smooth and superfast)
so new pic, same as old pic
but with new and improved neck
