I like the V necks. They're thick but comfortable.

Well....there is one point that bears addressing as far as his
signature model is concerned. that is that he was personally up
Fender's Ass from the git go about it. He's freak for minutiae
regardless of what he's involved in. It wasn't the kind of thing
it is with some artists sig models in that Fender does some
X-Rays of their fav guitars, woodsheds a bit and gets back to
them with some prototypes. He was involved...To the point of
pain for some Fender employees, in the entire process. So you
know one of his sig models has had no small amount of scrutiny
from EJ.
During the recording of "Ah Via Musicom"...One of the producers
had to go out of state for a week for some personal business.
When he left, Eric was working on one of the solo parts for
"High Landrons". When he returned a week later...Eric was still
working on that one part...After 70 some odd recorded passes, he
still wasn't happy with that one 14 second passage.
No wonder the guy is so skinny. Well that and the Vegan thing.

I played parts of "Derek and the Dominoes" to death back when
that album came out. My favorite song I can recall is "Keep On
Growing". It's that great groove caught my ears.
This thread conversation triggered a memory of reading a short
interview with Felix Pappalardi way way back when. He was
playing bass in Mountain (the band) at the time. I remember him
saying that Leslie West was, in his own way, a good a guitarist
as Eric Clapton. I liked Mountain back then, but I never heard
him as being on a par with EC.
Felix Pappalardi produced most of the Cream albums I believe.

I read the signature model took about 9 years to design because
of his perfectionist attitude. He uses a bone stock black one as
one of his main guitars, so that’s a good sign. I read a lot
about it on forums, and it seems his name is quality guaranteed.
It’s either the best Strat they’ve ever played, or they don’t
like his touches. I mean, he went so far as to design the pick
up set to the point Fender sells it as a seperate set. There’s
no backplate, there’re five springs in the tremolo, no string
trees, that beautiful neck... If I can’t afford it with my tax
returns, I might end up selling some stuff!
If you browse through my Wiki where I keep track of all the
guitars and gear I used on every song on each album, the Strat
is mixed in a lot with my best tones even if I prefer the Gibson
style tone.

Pappalardi was a big part of their studio albums.
No way I'm getting into a "who's better" debate on West and
Clapton. They had completely different styles. I loved Mountain
as well...Leslie West had a great rock vocal style as well.
