Probably isn't a guitar player here that doesn't know who Ry
Cooder is....What his place in music is...But I found this video
he recorded last year...Just Ry doing his thing...
But Indigo Dave....Check this out...You'll get a kick out of the
lyrics I promise. ;D

Yes, cute. Nixon was a special case too. I mean special like
Emperor Trump is special. Some pundit said that Nixon was a
crook but at least he was a serious person. And I suspect he was
whip smart. Trump is butt ugly dumb (I made up an expression).
At first I was put off by Ry's voice. I guess he's being an
elder statesman blues singer or something. But his fingerstyle
guitar playing saves the performance for me. And he's got some
fucking history. I recently watched a Captain Beefheart
documentary. Ry Cooder was interviewed prominently through the
doc. He played with Beefheart in an early version of the band.
IIRC some record guy wanted him to play with the Beefheart in
the band. But Beefheart was kind of crazy and Cooder thought it
might shoot his young career in the foot. He left Beefheart's
band. Beefheart was an underappreciated crazy blues/rock
innovator. Never made it in the biz.
You guys probably know more about Cooder's days with the Stones.
I think it was around "Let It Be". Someone told me they read
that Keith Richards stole some of Ry's licks reportedly. I don't
know. I've never read that.

It was "Let it Bleed"...."Let it Be" was some other Brit band
whose name escapes me. ;)
Cooder was all over the place in the 60's through the 90's. He's
a major student of the blues, particularly slide guitar. he's
dome a lot of soundtrack work, production work, and guested on
hundreds of albums.
I thought you'd get a kick out of the lyrics being the same
generation as mine. And I agree with what you said insofar as
the comparisons between Nixon and Trump. Nixon was much more
sophisticated politically than Trump has even a chance of
becoming. Had it not been for his incredible paranoia and
insecurities, his alcoholism, all which ended up warping him so
severely, Nixon could have been a great president. All anybody
remembers is Watergate and his lying about the Vietnam War.
Most people are surprised to find out that it was Nixon who
rammed the Affirmative Action Act through Congress. That it was
Nixon who created the EPA. Nixon that opened the door to China.
His absolute obsession with retaining the office and the power
that came with it was his downfall. His stubborn refusal to
state the truth to all of us about Vietnam, his incessant
lies...eventually, about EVERYTHING. It was a pivotal moment in
American history and he pissed it all away.

I suppose I should dock you a Karma point, but you only have 2.
;D
I'll give you another just to show you that mixing up Brit Rock
history points means nothing to me.
Aw hell....Just noticed I only have 1.
