Two of my favorite pieces of music for more than 40 years now.
Dave Brubeck studied in college with a French composer named
Darius Milhaud. Milhaud is most famous for using "polytonality"
which seems to largely be 2 (differing) chords played at the
same time. This created some great rich dissonance - sort of
       like eating spicy food.
There are harmonic dissonances all throughout, but if you listen
at around 8 min 45 secs in the Brubeck piece....
The Stravinsky piece has pretty dramatic dissonance from the
       opening notes and throughout.

interchangably 6/8, 4/4 swing/ and 3/4 timings to begin with...
the first thought i had was " jesus... someone else hears life
       the same way?"
thank you... im going back to listen to this, i might be a
       while, but im here...

Speaking of Brubeck, he made an excellent Japanese inspired
       album.

Dunno if you know Brubeck's work, but he did a lot of odd
meters. I think beginning with "Take Five". Also, Joe Morello
was a wonderful drummer with his own musical identity.

I'm sure you're referring to "Jazz Impressions of Japan". I'm
going to try to give a listen to this album sometime soon. I
have his double album "Live at Carnegie Hall" on my phone
(mp3). When I listened the other day, I'd forgotten how much
       I'd liked Dave Brubeck.

       While we're on stuff that's a bit on the edge...I've been a
David Torn fan for several decades. He might be a bit too
guitarry for some but at least catch a few minutes of these
       examples..
       This one from 1987...

And this solo outing from 2015...I love his manipulations with
delays, loops and reverbs...This particular example is kind of
       in Bucky's wheelhouse I think......

Torn played on one of my favorite Sylvian tracks.
