My beliefs about music theory are different than a lot of
musicians I encounter. They tend to think of right and wrong. I
remember there was a guy on Harmony Central I schooled about
Japanese music when he insisted all cultures embrace the same
tropes in theory because music is a science, or something to
that effect. The Japanese are one of several cultures who
embraced dissonance in their traditional and popular forms.
I tend to think of what’s the major scale/note in the key I’m
playing. Theory dictates that your key is the note or chord your
composition starts in. Whatever. I still think of songs that
start with Em or Am as in the key of C major because those
scales are in that key. People can argue against me, but that’s
how my mind works. There are two keys a guitar can play easily
with standard tuning: E major and C major. With E, guitarists
generally rely on E, A, D, and Bm. C is more free with C, B7,
Am, Em, Dm, F, G7, G, and all sorts of suspended chords. Barre
chords allow you to play in any key, but that’s why guitarists
like Jimmie Vaughn use capos. So, I approach guitar theory with
those two keys in mind because they work best with open chords
       and open note runs.
But I love Gm. I love building songs and structures in the G
minor scale. It’s not my favorite key by any means, because I
tend to think of keys as intervals of the same structure because
you can transpose any song into any key. G is bright sounding,
       so Gm sounds bittersweet.
Mind you, if I posted this anywhere else, there’d be several
people trying to say I’m wrong. I don’t think about music in
terms of right and wrong, though.

Every single person that frequents this forum is heads and
shoulders above me in music theory. I can't sight read, I don't
think about keys persay. I am aware that the key of a song is
usually determined by the root, or the first note or chord. I am
a completely unsophisticated and unschooled guitar player. I
never stray too far from basic rock and blues structures,
because I really don't know how to.
I know what I like however. Musically. And I like a lot of
different music, even if I don't understand what key it is in.
I enjoy reading what people that DO know more about music write.
I enjoy conversing with them when I see an opening where I can
contribute to the conversation without making too big an ass of
       myself.
Every single person in this Forum is a better musician than I.
Every single person here is more creative than I as well. I love
       it!
I kind of feel like the the guy that owned the Chelsea Hotel in
New York. Where all these creative people..Artists, Musicians,
Actors all lived for stretches of time.
Just glad to be around all of you!

       Horseshit. Untrue.
people don't listen to mine in numbers either.
Plus all the shit I have posted is old shit.
Doesn't mean people hate our music. Just means they haven't
listened to it enough times TO hate it. ;D
The most played track I have, and the only one that gets at
least 4 plays a week is my cover "Sympathy for the Devil".
People listen for the familiar in music. You aren't willing to
compromise your originality. That's to be respected.
There is an audience out there for your music. You just have to
       find it is all.

You'll need a pristine blade to do that right. You wouldn't want
       to soil the ritual.
So, I hope you are cursed with nothing but rusty blades, as to
       preempt any follow through.

My ex-girlfriend's father joked that I should join the 27 club
when I was actually suicidal. ::) I have my wife and a
promising future, so I'm not interested anymore.
