I know people are sick of me pushing my music around here, but
the last Ambient album I recorded was described as "very
spiritual" by a friend. I listen to it at work to block out the
people around me, but it helps with my anxiety in my new job
environment.

thats kind of the problem... i dont identify with a genre...
it isnt like that. im used to operating solo. i never plan
anything and i dont follow a formula or pattern. everything i do
is totally improvised, on the spot. working with others is
weird sometimes because gongs dont tend to “follow” anyone elses
lead... but last night was off the chain. i was able to fill
bass notes on chords and even fill entire chords in proper
place... finding melody and harmony lines to my surprise and
the crowds amazement. i was completely out of my comfort zone
and was rewarded with so many new lessons and ideas... i
definitely have to figure out a good mic setup though...

Glad to hear it all went well, and even exceeded your
expectations! ;D

yes, i consider what i do to be a meditation or prayer for
increasing compassion and our awareness of the need... people
call it all sorts of things from gong baths to sound healings to
vibrational alignment... i dont like to put my limitations on
others perceptions so i let folks make of it what they will...
i offer soundscapes for meditation and exploration... i offer
relaxation on a depth difficult to acheive in a conscious
state... last night i found that transcends genre...

apprehensive going in... weird gig setup with the first act
being a non- beat, (beat, yet free style) poet and myself as two
featured artists performing with the eco-ensemble... a group of
several didge players, djembe players and percussionists, a hang
drum player, one didge player also plays flute and an
occasional guitarist and harmonica player depending on the
night. i bring my gongs, bowls, bells, my hang, several flutes
including the contrabass overtone fujara and voice to the mix...
i had just met 5 of the 7 people on stage for the first time...
actually met them as they were helping me with my gear to go on
for the sound check... the act to follow us, a local jazz trio
with a singer was friendly and appropriately too cool to be
bothered much... the sound crew was oblivious to what i was
doing. i tried to explain but saw they were in control so... a
couple minutes into the soundcheck and three techs are running
mics everywhere around my gear, scratching their heads at the
board... i watched them place two nice pencil condensers about
half an inch away from the face of my 48 inch gong so i just
walked to the board and explained enertia, mass and velocity as
it impacts us in the real world... and set about trying to
explain the challenges they were looking and listening to...
they, and i, learned a lot! we got it close but i found a lot
of what i do gets lost without proper mics... and i dont know
how much will still get translated until i get decent mics set
up properly with a good set of ears to critique the sound.
a few tweaks and sound check went ok... back to the green
room, put on dry clothes, went outside and cleared my head on
the loading dock... my condition was in good condition so i
brushed down my kurta, shook out my hair and went inside...
the place was dark... but i could still see her standing in
that red dress by the green room door, watching me as i took my
seat at the table with my just then introduced friends, with
which i would be performing live in a few moments. one man was
orchestrating a loose framework that seemed plausible yet the
longer it went the more elaborate it became and my interests
wandered. the poet turned to me and said quietly, i dont work
well knowing what to expect... i laughed a bit too loudly and
hugged him. in a whisper i said that what i do is usually
based in silence... both at least, equally important... but
with a bit of luck, gongs willing, we may both bend the others
mind a bit before this is over... he asked me to play
whenever, whatever as loudly or as softly as i felt directed...
the more or the less the better... my call, forget what anybody
else says... i turned to look, and she walking up to the
table... introducing her self... "hey man!, we're on!"
sitting down to my gongs i am visually isolated, my back turned
and totally surrounded by bronze on three sides makes listening
easier for me. as i sat down a turned and she was sitting
directly behind me, a margarita on the table, by herself, framed
against the comings and goings of the club. it made for a nice
mental image to reflect upon but then it began... i realized
the pet was speaking, so i picked up my tingshas and began my
meditation much as i would any other day, any other place... we
were supposed to play for 45 minutes... we tried to stop three
different times and finally i smoked their heads with the gongs
properly... part of my ritual is placing things back in proper
order before i turn around, still sitting on my meditation seat
and bowing in respect. she was still sitting there, the drink
seemed to not have moved from the mental frame that was now
flashing back. of course she had to wait, she was singing in
the next act...

Just tonight got around to perusing the Summer NAMM reports at
HC. Your micro-phonic/recording/sound reinforcement dilemma
immediately came to mind when I saw this thing..

that looks wild! i wonder what with all the software and usb
connection about latency in the event it could be used live?
definitely worth looking into, if its feasible, set up,space
requirements, stage footprint... i need to look at the specs!
thanks!

U welcome! I just took one look at it and thought 360 degrees.
Whether it would fit into your vision or capture the essence of
what you do, I know not...But had to give you a heads up.
Besides....It looks like an Alien's head.....or a Fly's eye.
I'm thinking it would be perfect for a drum circle.
