Very interesting, and it sounds good, but I haven’t bought a
pedal in quite a while.
Deviever did say something I agree with. Most manfactuers are
making fairly similar products and advertising them as the best
or worth their price when they really aren’t that unique.
Players act like their gear is sacred rather than tools of
expression.
What’s odd is that as I have gotten older and more advanced as a
musician, my taste in gear isn’t too far from the beaten path.
Anyone who’s heard my last few albums will notice more emphasis
on basic tracking and exploring structure rather than effects
and layering. I have incorporated acoustic guitar vocally and
instrumentally, and I spend more time finding tones than new
sounds. My hands have become more like modulation than the
infinite plethora my digital effects off.
But I’ll ramble about my music all day.

ramble on! i dont mind learning a thing or three. i realize
the abyss between my musical world and youse guyses... my
recordings are totally flat, not even a hint of reverb... dry.
but that’s necessity for my instruments. ive considered
effects on some flutes or hang, but it feels, somehow... not
right? cant explain...

I'm a big fan of singing bowls for meditation, and they don't
require reverb.
As an Ambient artist, I think of reverb as a separate
instrument. A bass guitar, for example, can fill up so much
space with hall reverb surrounding its frequency like a cushion
or cloud. I have one song that is just one guitar track and
heavy bass frequency that you have to listen to it with
headphones to get the full effect. I'm creating an orchestra
with just one instrument.

Actually..I think if you were trying to explain Reverb to
someone, I think a smack on a Gong would be a pretty good
starting point wouldn't it?
Do you call it a smack? What is the actual terminology? A Bang?
A Bong?

A tap.

yeah, a tap is good... its a finesse instrument, not the
commonly thought blast of confusion, it can be strings and
waterfalls... monks chanting in caves and birds, whales ,
sirens voices... all hiding in the resonance of the invocation
of sound. to invoke sound sounds less violent and caries
techniques such as friction, tapping, mallets, sympathetic
vibration and manipulation other than just striking. even the
direction is done in a circular fashion as direct frontal
straight line motion into the instrument is seen as " an affront
in the face of grace" according to eastern teachers.

"An Affront in the Face of Grace'...That's beautiful....
You know until I heard your approach to the instrument, my
entire experience with gongs was limited to seeing Rock Drummers
with the Gongs behind them. Y'know...Keith Moon, John Bonham,
Carl Palmer...You get the drift.
I never considered it as a finesse instrument until I heard..Aw
heck..Was it "Rain Bird"?...I do remember "Moonrise"
specifically...a couple of others...Long pieces that took a
listen or two ta really sink in.
Truthfully, it was kind of Whaaat??...But then it was Ohhhh!.
But I'm like that...Takes me a while for most things musical to
really hit me where the hit was intended.....Once I get a bit
schooled to where someone is coming from, it's easier for me
discern the nuances.
I think it was too much loud early in life that's to blame for
the thickness between my ears.

its best in person, but it kinda works with a decent set of cans
over yer ears...
and for the record, if all i knew were as thick betwixt teh ears
as you, life would be much easier around these parts... you are
a bigger, more inspiring part of life than you may realize...
this is a small group, but oddly enough i feel more free to
share and be myself than any of the other places i visit...
thank all of you.
