Alas The Epi...

...Still in the shop...Apparently the bridge pickup crapped out
and the Shop is waiting on the replacement one to come in.
Still under warranty...And my proclivity towards not paying for
something I should get free...Forces me to wait...Otherwise I'd
probably ask them to warrant the labor and just stick a
Burstbucker or a DiMarzio in there and I'd pay for the pickup.
I really need some more guitars....Probably need to record more
as well...I just never seem to have the recording gear up when
I'm playing...And I'm beginning to think I've got some kind of
psychological issues involved in all this. It was easier when I
was working with tape for one thing.
I actually did do some recording on my acoustic two weeks
ago...But I didn't feel the music was really going anywhere...

Probably a guilty pleasure for you.
My pet peeve is restringing guitars. I literally hate it. I will
play on a set of strings until I break one or the intonation is
so bad I can no longer bear it. I used to be really bad about
breaking the skinny ones, due to a lot of bending. And when i
bought strings, I'd buy loose .9's and .11's so I could get by
with just changing them, and not the whole set. As I got older,
and got away from playing in bands, my touch got a lot lighter.
I suppose from not having to compete so much for space in the
mix, so to speak. I rarely break strings anymore.
My bass is literally on it's second set of strings. I restrung
it for the first time when the Vomiteers cranked up.
I bought the Bass in 1995.

Well, a lot of bassists swear by old strings. Carol Kaye didn't
even change her strings back in the day. She traded in her bass
every two years for a new one instead.
I've heard Clapton fired a guitar tech once for changing his
strings. There's a video of Jeff Beck showing off his guitars,
and he has an Esquire that has the same strings it did in the
seventies. My guitar instructor hated changing strings so much
he'd break them during gigs because they were so far gone. He
had so many guitars and they'd all have dead strings.
I try to change mine once a month if I'm using it regularly. I
tend not to want to play my guitars at first when I restring
them because I don't want to waste the strings too soon, and it
takes a day or so for the neck/body to adjust anyway. My Mustang
and Les Paul are in their cases because I finally got around to
changing their strings. I haven't swapped out my Lag acoustic
strings since February, I think. My Alvarez has a set of
D'Addario coated strings which last a while. The Lag has
Japanese gold strings a friend gave me to try. They lasted
forever before going south. Tonally, the D'Addario is the best
coated string, though.
If you wipe down Ernie Balls, they last without rusting.

I'm responding to the comment on wanting or needing to record
more AJ. I keep my Sony handheld recorder on a mic boom stand.
The mic stand sits behind me and the boom is maybe 18 inches
over my head. It's always ready to record. This isn't a
multi-track interface of course but it can document any ideas I
want to hold on to. No need to set up an interface and DAW to
record.

Well, I use my iPhone if I have any ideas to record, but I’m a
believer in if an idea’s any good, I’ll remember it later.

Tom Petty used to remove and BOIL his strings and swore it made
the wound strings sound like new again. I tried it with less
than desirable results however...Still, it makes sense that
getting the grime and sweat out of the wind would help..

...Still waiting on the Epi. Talked to a luthier in Houston
Saturday about having some work done on my Stratocaster. I need
to have the nut replaced on it, and the frets need attention as
well. Think I want to have a pro do it...And to also redo my
pickup mods I did..
I think I'm going to have the original pickguard put back on,
the original neck and mid pickups put back, and the DiMarzio
Mini-Humbucker put on the bridge with either a mini toggle or a
push=pull knob to switch it between hummer and single coil.

The Bridge pickup is bad on the Epi. Doesn't bode well for the
future for it does it? Shame...It's a nice little guitar...
