...that for the first time in my life since I left my parents
home, I am no longer paying rent or a mortgage. :)
It only took me 20 years, too. ;D
To pay for it, that is. I got started a little late in the house
       buying thing. :P

Great newz, and great to hear.
Now that you have a bit more breathing room, I recommend
thinking about putting some (or all) of that monthly payment in
a retirement fund. One that you can't easily raid for that $5K
man toy that may occur to you later down the line.
       Just a thought. Congratulations.

Do Canadians pay property taxes Dan? School taxes? Taxes and
insurance were a big chunk of my mortgage payments every month.

Thanks, AJ. It really hasn't sunk in yet. I've been paying rent
or a mortgage since 1984. Maybe in a month or two...

       Thanks, Dave.
Good advice regarding the retirement fund. I've been on a modest
disability pension since 1999. There hasn't been much money put
back in the house because of this, so I have some things to
fix/attend to before I'll be able to save much, I'm afraid. :(
My current furnace is 20 years old, my bathroom is slowly
       disintegrating, etc... :D
I love my house, but it does have its own burden that comes with
       it, I suppose.
On the bright side, I have a pension due to me from my old job
once I do retire. It's going to pay me more than what I get now.
It's still not much, but I have gotten not too bad at living
       modestly.

Yeah, we pay all of those taxes and insurance fees and whatnot
here in The Great White North, too. >:(
       I still have those expenses - I don't think it's humanly
possible to avoid them, short of dying, that is. :D
