To be fair, I owned a lot of Squiers, and none of them could
touch MIM Fenders. I even had a Mexican Squier, and it wasn’t
anything special.
Epiphone, on the other hand, beats any Gibson I owned or picked
up in a shop. The expection would be my uncle’s Firebird and
jumbo acoustic. But my Les Paul Custom, made in Korea, sounded
better acoustically than his 80’s Gibson Standard. Felt more
solid too.
Rickenbacker has yet to outsource, but they’re soooo niche.

I have coveted a Ricky since either(Can no longer exactly
remember) Beatles VI, or The Byrds First Album(Mr. Tambourine
Man).
Owned a Takamine 12 string acoustic in the Late 70's...For about
6 months...Recorded one forgettable song which I think I
recorded over..Sold the guitar back to the fella I bought it
from....I could not keep the damned thing in tune...Not even
sure how many strings I broke...Drove me absolutely nuts....
Perhaps part of the problem was my heavy handed approach. Had it
been an electric..Perhaps having a bit of amplification would
have lightened my touch and lowered the frustration level...

It’s versatile, but it’s limited as well. You get the classic
tones, but for creative purposes in more Avant Garde territory,
it’s like learning a new instrument.

Finally got to pick the Epi back up this morning. Just took a
while for the shop to get the warranty pickup back from Gibson.
Looked around at a bunch of stuff while I was waiting for them
to get a few customers ahead of me taken care of. It's a small
shop, just one location, but nicely appointed and real friendly
folks running the place. Picked a Squier Tele and plunked on it
awhile, unamplified. Felt pretty good in my hands actually. You
can tell a lot about a electric guitar unamplified. It had a
nice neck, very playable. Not much resonance, but Tele's aren't
that resonant anyway.
Another fella my age was waiting as well. Turns out he had an
Epi there for some warranty work as well. His main axe is a 70's
era 335 Gibson and his kids had bought him his Epi for a
birthday present. His is a natural finish Wildkat model. 2
P90's and a Bigsby. Nice looking guitar. Nice fella too.
Apparently he'd been trading with the owner of the shop for over
forty years. The owner of the shop was who waited on me and a
real gentleman and generally cool dude.
The other fella still plays out, and said he was reluctant to
take his 335 out of the house anymore because of the value of
the instrument, and had been taking the Epi out instead. We
talked at length about the difference in the tone of the Dogear
P-90's on the Epi versus the PAF style humbuckers on his Gibby,
and he said he compensated for the single coils by using a "Fat
Tone" Pedal. I'd never heard of one before. He said he used it
on his Strat as well. Then it was my turn and and I showed him
my Epi. Then I picked on his and he picked on mine. he liked the
coil tapping feature...And I liked his Bigsby...He said he never
used it.......Anyway, they had a 339 like mine there and while I
was finishing up the business end he was pulling it off the
wall......
I'd agreed to pay extra to have them restring and set up my
Epi...And it never played as well as it does now. All in all, a
good experience. I never mentioned that I'd dropped my Strat off
across town to have some work done on it. Depending on how that
turns out, I may be coming to Great Southern Music for any more
guitar related stuff....Really liked the place.

Squier Teles are truly representative of how awesome a Tele is.
My favorite one of all the Teles I had was a black Affinity
Tele. My least favorite was the Mexican Squier I had for a month
or so. Had a black Fender logo on it and Squier in the
subscript, but it wasn't even up to par with the cheapest Squier
made today.
I don't play live, but I wouldn't bring my Rickenbacker to a
gig! Too much money in that guitar to lose. I'd be more crushed
if my Epi Les Paul was stolen, but it wouldn't cost as much to
replace.

My new Dell desktop (actually is sitting on the floor) seems to
have non-functioning HDMI ports - one on the mother board and
one on the video card. I went thru testing it out over the
phone with a tech person. So they said I need a new
motherboard. Problem is that the motherboard is on back order.
This computer sits next to me on the floor when I play the
piano. When I record something quick and easy on my Sony (which
sits permanently on a mic stand) I like to listen back thru my
TV's speaker bar via the HDMI cable. This is cramping my
style.
Hopefully they'll call with a replacement early next week. At
least I'm hoping so.

The Lad went through similar headaches when he bought a new
desktop late last year. The first one crapped out(Video) in two
weeks. The second in a month. Best Buy gave him in store credit
then and he bought a different brand....It lasted until a month
before the OEM warranty expired. They gave him in store credit
on it, and he finally blew off the Shit Hot boutique brands and
got a Max equipped Lenovo. No problems as of yet, but he DID buy
the Geek Squad warranty package on this one.
