Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey

I continue thinking of songs for my imaginary little stage act.
I worked up a sort of solo arrangement to this chaotic song. So
I played different chord accompaniments all thru the song. Try
to recreate some of the chaos. I love this song.

That's a really cool arrangement Dave! It's one of my favorite
songs off the White album. Some really fine singing and playing
       on that one.
I remember when that album first came out I gathered with bud's
at a friends house to listen to it and we all felt differently
about the album as a whole. There is so much material on that
album, and so varied, that we couldn't achieve quorum on what it
meant as an album even after three listens through.
"Monkey", "I'm So Tired", "While My Guitar gently Weeps" were
the standouts for me that evening.
Funny...I remember saying the solo on "Guitar" was George's best
ever....Didn't know for years it was Eric Clapton. Sonically to
my ears, it sounds a lot like his solo on "Badge".
I really dig the Dave Stank you put on this one Dave.....You
ought to put that in your assisted living performance set list.

Thank you kindly AJ. Seems funny for an ALF, but on the other
hand someone asked for "Shout" by the Isley Brothers last night.
I think the guy who plays alternating Fri nights from me does
       that song.
This is not new, but I'd forgotten I do the damn song. I wrote
it on my list. I'm thinking of going to a jazz jam night this
coming Tuesday. A jazz guitar playing I know is going to sit
in. I asked him if he could play bass behind me on 2 or 3 songs.
I'm hoping to play on the break so the guy who runs the jam
won't be playing behind me. He does his Bill Frisell styled
noodling around and ruins a good blues groove.

I went to the place in Sanford and sat in. My jazz guitar player
friend who was planning (and did) to sit in with the jazz band
spoke on the phone with the guy who has the gig. He got
clearance for me to play when the band took their break. The
venue (a large bar-club) has a Yamaha digital piano that lives
       permanently on the stage.
I intentionally polished up "T-Bone Blues"/"Early In The
Morning" by Louis Jordan and "Mood Indigo"/"Sophisticated
Lady" by Duke Ellington. Played them all by myself on the band's
1st break. Went well. I got some positive feedback from a
handful of people and nice applause. This was an effort at some
clumsy market research. Also, making an effort to get out there
and circulate. I hope to do more of this in the future to test
the waters. I need to search out appropriate places. Gotta get
out of my cave (my house) more often.

That's awesome Dave! I'm sure you were great!
You should continue to get out there as much as you can!

Yeah. I want to polish up "Come Together" and maybe do
"Everybody...Monkey". And contrast them with a couple of jazz
standards. I love juxtapositions. And I hate the jazz snob
mentality of "I only play jazz". It's a strange illness that
gets some players. I guess there's that authenticity thing that
other styles also have. I heard an NPR magazine show once and
they talked about authenticity in Hip Hop. Focused on Niki Minaj
       - when she made an album with melodies she was no longer
considered authentic. So there's snob appeal in a lot of styles.
Anyway I'd like to present those. Getting prepared for public
       performing is a good motivator.

There's cork sniffers in every crowd to be sure. I like your
range of music. You hop around genres with ease.
I try to be original but my influences always creep into
       everything....If I'm on a guitar for more than 2:30, I'm gonna
       bend a string.....

I forgot to list "Good Day Sunshine" - the other song I
       performed. Sang and played.
Regarding influences and being original. I think our influences
go into forming our preferences - how we choose to play things.
And hopefully we can put a touch of our own imagination into it.
I think styles generally form as hybrids. Someone comes to a
style with their previous history and ways. A new little branch
in the family tree sprouts. I'm so full of shit.

I don't think you're full of shit at all Dave. I think you're
       spot on.

I spoke with my jazz guitar playing friend. He's becoming
familiar with the guy who runs the Tuesday jazz jam over in
Sanford. He said he'll ask the guy (again) about me playing on
the band's break. They play from 8 till about 9 and then take
their break. I played last Tues as I mentioned. If I get to
play on their break again, I'll be prepared with (I've decided)
12 songs and play and sing them until the guys come back and
seem to want to take the stage again.
I have a theory about eclecticism. My theory is simply that
almost any song performance is palatable to people if it's
sandwiched between 2 songs they like. Sort of like the Mary
Poppins "Just A Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go Down".
I'm thinking I'll do "Dear Prudence". Maybe even "Everybody...Me
And My Monkey". Maybe "Cry Me A River". A few jazz standards.
       A couple of good blues.
