You live and learn....I didn't think of ALC as a grunge band at
all...Though I realize they were. I thought of them as a late
model Hair band/Heavy Metal band offshoot.
I was very happy about grunge coming forward as it brought the
guitars back outfront and away from the Synth Pop/ Hi Hop/Rap
takeover.
It seemed that tone was coming back in style as opposed to slick
production values.
Do remember the first time you heard "Plush" by STP? I do. I'm
still knocked out by the tone DeLeo was getting on that song. It
was such a simple song but man the tone. And Scott's vocals were
so strained and beautiful.....I still love listening to that
song REALLY LOUD.

HOLY SHIT! I love Core. I bought that album right after I had
fallen in love for the first time and listened to it over and
over. Dean Deleo is so underrated. His riffs are phenomenal.
I probably first heard "Plush" from the Grand Theft Auto San
Andreas soundtrack. I spent more time than I should've playing
that game.

Something else we have in common...Not Grand theft...But mos def
STP...I have their first 2 albums. Dean is really underrated.
His tone is always in the pocket. I know he was playing Demeter
Amps during those phases. The second album is full of nuggets as
well. "Unglued"...And yes, I had that tune in mind when I wrote
the lyrics for the Vomiteers song "UnglueD", if not the spirit
of the song. "Interstate Love Song", "Vaseline"....Damn...They
knocked me out...I mean, I can't play that way...But I dig it ya
know...

I remember my guitar instructor and I discussing Deleo and how
the dynamic of the band is based around how he and Robert Deleo
interact. "No Memory," for instance, is a testament to their
relationship. Apparently, Dean comes a jazz background and
that's why some of his riffs are based around complicated chord
structures.

Didn't know that about Dean. I did know that Robert had never
even touched a bass guitar until Dean tapped him to play bass,
maybe not in STP, but not long before that at all. He picked up
on it pretty damned fast. The pompadour he sported was a wild
touch.

Robert is a guitarist as well, though. He played one of the
leads on the second album.

I think I remember that. I read an interview with him and Dean a
long time ago where they both talked about how the band came
together.
