Oh, Bucky, BTW I saw a promo on GetTv for A Dolly Parton AND a
Glen Campbell special. It looked like maybe Dolly at 10 and
Glen at 10:30 - which makes me wonder if the chopped up a
special into the little chunks. An FYI. On SUNDAY night.

For some reason, whenever I get angry or upset, I can listen to
that song and it calms me...Don't know why other than the
resignation in Ricky's voice that people's perception of him was
chaining him to it.I looked at the song on it's release as kind
of his Declaration of Independence.
It's the only Ricky Nelson song I ever grew attached to.
Plus the imagery the lyrics evoke are of a time I hold quite
dear.
Another song, "Monterrey" also uses the name dropping to evoke a
picture of The Monterrey Pop Festival, but it doesn't have the
poignancy and warmth of "Garden Party"
The use of the Coral Electric Sitar is cool though.

I don't think Layne was singing about cubicles.

So that's his name....Lol.
The very last gig I played the guys that opened for us played a
really good cover of that song with a trio. Guitar player
brought a Laney but asked if he could play through my Marshall.
Really good player.

Even though Jerry Cantrell wrote most of the lyrics and music,
Layne was Alice in Chains for me. The new stuff seems slightly
disrespectful of Layne, especially considering Cantrell claimed
he wouldn't reform under the Alice in Chains name. Plus, he was
jealous that Layne sang for other bands. Cantrell's solo
material never gained the acclaim of AIC.
I remember being so heavy into them when I was a freshman in
high school. Their sound was so dark and unique from other
Grunge icons. It's the kind of music I liked to turn on while
laying up in bed at night with the TV. Those were the days I
lived on message boards and had a guitar in my bed.
