if you want to own a gun, there is something hugely wrong with
you
My British friend, kindly allow that Bucky and his Missus were
threatened by a violent man. Were your Lennon threatened like
that, what would you stop at to save him?
There is nothing wrong with Bucky, nothing at all. I own guns. 2
small caliber rifles for target shooting, a muzzle loader for
fun, and a shotgun for intruders.
I guess there's something wrong with me as well...But I'd shoot
anybody that was threatening the ones I love.
with all due respect jim, you are brainwashed to think that guns
are normal. there are bad people in my country too. there is no
excuse whatsoever for a civilian to carry a gun. the fact that a
civilian has just shot 600 people and americans are STILL trying
to defend his right to own military-grade weapons speaks volumes
about how 'wrong' your nation is when it comes to guns.
theoretical intrusion fantasies sum it up quite nicely. it is
pure fantasy that you would be able to protect your family by
shooting a bad guy. it simply does not work like that. you can
invoke all the imaginary emotive situations in the world, but
those things do no happen outside movies.
your children are far more likely to be killed in a car accident
or by choking on food, but i doubt you are so prepared for those
circumstances. gun culture is a disease, and unless you are
willing to address it, you must admit that your right to own a
gun is more important than the lives of the thousands of
children who die every year in america at the wrong end of a
gun.

Let's agree to disagree, Imp. No need to personally attack us.
We're all gentlemen with different points of view.

i didn't and wouldn't attack anyone personally. we can agree to
disagree until the cows come home, but that doesn't stop tens of
thousands of americans being killed every year by fellow
americans. your governments inability to even discuss the
problem is tragic.

I don't care about the political aspect, and I'm not going to
argue about Americans, the gov't, and gun control. It doesn't
interest me. What does interest me is owning a firearm to
protect my wife and property. You don't have to like it or
approve of it. I'm fine with your disapproval.

that's your decision and of course you don't need anyone's
approval, but you are far more likely to shoot yourself or your
partner than an intruder.

First...These kind of discussions are exactly the kind I want
for this Forum. Rational people. discussing irrational issues.
While I'm a bit unhappy it took a hot button issue to get you in
here Imp...I'm exceedingly happy you are here. :)
Secondly, (Funny, this is really a second Amendment issue). All
the statistics you presented are correct.
America is a completely different country than your own. You
have to accept that to even begin to understand us. I know this
to be true because it's my own country's biggest failing over
the last 70 years. We didn't understand the Vietnamese. We
don't understand the Arabs, The Afghans, The Iraqis. They don't
or can't embrace our values and our Leaders simply don't
understand it. So we send our Children to slaughter to change
their minds and it doesn't work. The numbskulls in Washington
don't get it.
The same way your King George didn't get it, didn't get us. We
carved this country out with our bare hands, King George wanted
his piece of it and refused to grant us even the cursory rights
we felt we were entitled to...We rebelled...With GUNS.
Guns are simply a part of our culture. Hell Nick...Nobody did a
better job of killing Americans than Americans. More Americans
were killed in the American Civil War than all the other wars
combined. The second amendment to out Constitution was the right
to keep and bear arms. That document is very old now, and the
spirit that was intended in it was to keep tyranny, from Our Own
Government at bay. So anyone's attempt to install a tyrant could
be met with force from the general populace.
That said, the same amendment has been abused ad infinitum by
The Gun Lobby. Guns are big business over here. Get in the way
of some Americans and their profits and you're headin' for a
fight.
I personally think it's out of hand. Nobody needs an assault
rifle. Not civilians anyway. I'd even argue that Police don't
need them in 99% of circumstances, but Luke17 could address that
with more expertise than I. Nobody needs a bump stock on their
AR or AK. That's what the killer in Vegas used. It turns a
semi-automatic weapon into a simulation(Albeit an inaccurate
one) of an automatic weapon. Nobody needs a 30 shot magazine on
a fucking handgun. Most people can't even hit the broadside of
barn with a handgun, even with a 30 shot magazine.
But here's the thing Nick....Americans, at least a lot of them,
take owning guns as a Constitutional Birthright. I'm not saying
it's right or wrong, good or bad. It's just what it is. And it's
considered a Freedom. Now, you tell somebody they aren't free,
not just here, anywhere, they are going to get busy fightin' and
killin' and dyin' to prove to you that by God they are.
I know how the World looks at us. It troubles me.
Not everyone who owns a gun over here is crazy though Nick. We
hunt with them, we shoot targets with them. That's the 99.9% of
us Nick.
Cheers

i already knew all that jim. i'm not as dumb as i look. none of
that means anything though. you seem resigned to the fact that
thousands of american must die every year in order to uphold the
second amendment. that is insane to me, and very sad.

I didn't say you looked dumb Nick....You're as smart as anyone I
know. You're an intelligent, sensitive person, appalled by
violence, and i understand that. But you live in a different
country than my own. That's all. You don't know us like you
think you do. Anymore than we know you really.
We're good folks over here Nick. You are judging us, by the
worst of us. You've got your share of daft wankers as well.

You should do whatever makes you feel secure in your home Bucky.
If you are unfamiliar with firearms, I'd suggest a pump shotgun.
You can clear a room with one shot from a twelve gauge and they
are affordable. You could teach your wife in an afternoon at a
gun range how to fire it. If unfamiliar with firearms, steer
clear of handguns altogether.
Again, this is an area where Luke17's counsel would be helpful,
as he spent his life dealing with criminals.
Luke seems to be absent......Hope he comes back...I miss the Old
Goat.

damn it. i hate the internet. i was joking jim. i wasn't

i am not judging anyone. i know you are good folk.
the difference is, our wankers can't walk into a shop and buy a
semi-automatic rifle and a few thousand rounds of ammo. if
that's your idea of ultimate freedom, why not sell bombs?
