       The Sower and the Seeds
       Matthew 13:1-9
1 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the
sea.2 and great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a
boat and sat there; and the whole crowd stood on the beach. 3
And he told them many things in parables, saying: "A sower went
out to sow. 4 and as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path,
and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Other seeds fell on
rocky ground, where they had not much soil, and immediately they
sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, 6 but when the sun
rose they were scorched; and since they had no root they
withered away. 7 Other seeds fell upon thorns, and the thorns
grew up and choked them. 8 Other seeds fell on good soil and
brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some
thirty. 9 He who has ears, let him hear."
       Mark 4:1-20
1 Again he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd
gathered about him so that he got into a boat and sat in it on
the sea; and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. 2
And he taught them many things in parables, and in his teaching
he said to them: 3 "Listen! A sower went out to sow. 4 And as he
sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and
devoured it. 5 Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it had not
much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth
of soil; 6 and when the sun rose it was scorched, and since it
had no root it withered away. 7 Other seed fell among thorns and
the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. 8 And
other seeds fell into good soil and brought forth grain, growing
up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a
hundredfold." 9 And he said, "He who has ears to hear, let him
hear." 10 And when he was alone, those who were about him with
the twelve asked him concerning the parables. 11 And he said to
them, "To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God,
but for those outside everything is in parables; 12 so that they
may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not
understand; lest they should turn again, and be forgiven." 13
And he said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? How
then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the
word. 15 And these are the ones along the path, where the word
is sown; when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away
the word which is sown in them. 16 And these in like manner are
the ones sown upon rocky ground, who, when they hear the word,
immediately receive it with joy; 17 and they have no root in
themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or
persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall
away. 18 And others are the ones sown among thorns; they are
those who hear the word, 19 but the cares of the world, and the
delight in riches, and the desire for other things, enter in and
choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. 20 But those that were
sown upon the good soil are the ones who hear the word and
accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a
       hundredfold."
       Luke 8:4-15
4 And when a great crowd came together and people from town
after town came to him, he said in a parable: 5 "A sower went
out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the path,
and was trodden under foot, and the birds of the air devoured
it. 6 And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered
       away, because it had no moisture. 7 And some fell among thorns;
and the thorns grew with it and choked it. 8 And some fell into
good soil and grew, and yielded a hundredfold." As he said this,
he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." 9 And
when his disciples asked him what this parable meant, 10 he
said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the
kingdom of God; but for others they are in parables, so that
seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand. 11
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 The
ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil
comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may
not believe and be saved. 13 And the ones on the rock are those
who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these
have no root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation
fall away. 14 And as for what fell among the thorns, they are
those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by
the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does
       not mature.

1 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the
       sea.
1 Again he began to teach beside the sea.
4 And when a great crowd came together and people from town
       after town came to him
       • Note; by the sea
2 and great crowds gathered about him
and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land
       • Note; the whole crowd is by the sea
when we look at the creation of man we see in genesis one
first water ; then land by the water; then man from land
jesus; is using this setting to show mankind they need to get
       back to the water
if one looks carefully at the water of genesis one
the water is the allegorical sign of how the trinity works
       god ; the first water
jesus; the drink offering poured out (the water separated from
       the water on the earth
the holy spirit ; the water left next to the land ( for mankind)

3 And he told them many things in parables, saying
And he taught them many things in parables, and in his teaching
       he said to them
       he said in a parable:
       • Note; a parable; to lay side by side and compare
       • In these cases we lay the old testament story
       • Next to the story Jesus brings out as a parable
       • Using the old testament story
       • Gives the insight into what Jesus is saying
       • Without the old testament story
       • We just don’t understand what Jesus is saying
       • Jesus does this ; so those who are listening
       •   Will hear ;
       • And those who are not following the ( bible story) won’t
       hear
"A sower went out to sow
3 "Listen! A sower went out to sow
5 "A sower went out to sow his seed
       • God has brought forth his story with the telling of the
       bible story
       • Jesus is here to present that gospel story
4 and as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds
       came and devoured them
4 And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds
       came and devoured it,
some fell along the path, and was trodden under foot, and the
birds of the air devoured it
       • Note ; birds of the air ; representing Satan and the fallen
       angels
       • Seen below as Jesus explains the parable
5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they had not much
soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of
soil, 6 but when the sun rose they were scorched; and since they
had no root they withered away
5 Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it had not much soil,
and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil; 6
and when the sun rose it was scorched, and since it had no root
       it withered away
6 And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered
away, because it had no moisture
       • Note ; had no root “hint” the story of the root of Jessie *
       see the kinsman redeemer story from the topic knowing jesus ;
       son of man
       • Note; had no moisture “hint’ the story of the water of
genesis * see genesis one story; knowing jesus ; son of god
7 Other seeds fell upon thorns, and the thorns grew up and
       choked them
7 Other seed fell among thorns and the thorns grew up and choked
it, and it yielded no grain
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and
       choked it
       • Note; not wheat and chaff; but as seen below (when Jesus
explains)the one person choosing from 2 different worlds ; one
of this life and one of the next life with this life lived out
       for that purpose
8 Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a
       hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty
seeds fell into good soil and brought forth grain, growing up
and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a
       hundredfold
8 And some fell into good soil and grew, and yielded a
       hundredfold
       • Note ; the numbers

( 100,60,30) ~ this is the way we of today say the number
( 30,60,100) ~ this is the order the old testament says the
       number
whereas Luke only mentions the ( 100) ~ this presumes no other
meaning to be had in the 30 and 60 that is not included in the
       100
. 9 He who has ears, let him hear."
" 9 And he said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear”
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
       • Those listening to Jesus who were deaf ; where made to hear
       by Jesus
       • Those who are ( really) listening to Jesus ; will hear
10 And when he was alone, those who were about him with the
twelve asked him concerning the parables
       • How do we come to understand the parables ?
       • Answer; we follow the story that Jesus has been saying ( the
       bible) from the beginning
11 And he said to them, "To you has been given the secret of the
       kingdom of God
10 he said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the
       kingdom of God
       • The “you” spoken of here is; those who are listening to
Jesus ( through his bible) to that story from the beginning
but for those outside everything is in parables; 12 so that they
may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not
understand; lest they should turn again, and be forgiven.
but for others they are in parables, so that seeing they may not
see, and hearing they may not understand
       • The “others” are those who ; read the bible and then tell
you what they think it means
13 And he said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? How
then will you understand all the parables?”
       • If you don’t see this ; you won’t understand the parables

14 The sower sows the word
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God
       • Jesus explains; the seed is the world of God ( the bible)
and in this word of god is the gospel story
15 And these are the ones along the path, where the word is
sown; when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the
word which is sown in them.
12 The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the
devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they
may not believe and be saved
       • Like the very people of the shores listening; those who hear
this ; and then walk away without continuing on with all that
Jesus will say; they will never hear the gospel story ; for the
story hear is not the gospel story ; but how the gospel story
effects different people, as seen in their reactions to it .
16 And these in like manner are the ones sown upon rocky ground,
       who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy;
       17 and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while;
then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the
       word, immediately they fall away
13 And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the
word, receive it with joy; but these have no root, they believe
for a while and in time of temptation fall away
       • Some of the people of the shores hear this message as
something new and good. They feel this way but without
       continuing on they stay immature so when the enemy comes along ;
they don’t look to Jesus as (for) the answer and deal with the
       problem on their own
18 And others are the ones sown among thorns; they are those who
hear the word, 19 but the cares of the world, and the delight in
riches, and the desire for other things, enter in and choke the
       word, and it proves unfruitful
14 And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who
hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares
and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not
       mature
       • Some of those on the shore hear the gospel story but without
continuing on they seek to preserve and grow material things of
this earth. Their fruit ( who a person is) stays unchanged and
       doesn’t seek the kingdom
20 But those that were sown upon the good soil are the ones who
hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and
       sixtyfold and a hundredfold.
Only here in Mark; (the same gospel that asks) “Do you not
understand this parable? How then will you understand all the
parables?” DO WE HERE THE EXPLAINATION OF THE GOOD SOIL; for the
producing of 30,60, and 100 times is reserved for these
       conclusion;
       the seed sown here is the gospel message;
there are four different ways that the people of the shore take
that message ; we see only the good soil are the people who
continue on "following; knocking and seeking" they are the ones
who keep listening and searching out the gospel story about
Jesus that is told throughout the entire bible
