Let’s live in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

I'm currently on holiday in New Zealamd in a city called Papamoa
in the province of Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. The province has
2 main cities, 1 being Rotorua where the geothermal activity and
lake make it a tourist hub for the North Island, and the other
is Tauranga which includes the suburb Papamoa where I am. This
city is a retirement mecca due to its lovely microclimate,
that’s beautiful summers and mild winters, for instance the
temperature range here today (start of summer) at Papamoa Beach
is 16-22 o/C. The Pacific Ocean is right on your doorstep for
the likes of boating, fishing, swimming & surfing
I was here 18 months ago on holiday and liked it so much I’ve
returned after my SEA vacation with a view to relocating here
for a few years from Australia. The population is around
131,000. I will make a decision in the next 2 weeks as to
whether I will stay but its looking positive

I saw the passenger liner Ovation of the Seas leave yesterday
without some of its passengers
I visited White Island when I was here 18 months ago, doing the
same day trip as those passengers from the ship. The thing that
got me was the sulphur in the air that had me coughing most of
the time
Like my brother who visited the twin towers observatory a couple
weeks before 9/11, we like to live dangerously :P

Sounds good. Are there many Brits about? It's easy to see why so
many Scots emigrated there - similar to home but a lot drier and
warmer.
Imagine that you could only spend a week or so there then had to
head to the approaching smog season then roast season of Chiang
Mai. That would suck big time.

I'll be nipping down to Sydney in March. I'd go before but
summer is too hot and those fires look grim. How's the summer
weather where you are?

Today fine low 16, high 23o/c. Pretty much the temperature range
it will be all this month. It will get a little hotter as summer
progresses but expect it to top out around mid 20's
I can even come over here from Aussie and go straight on the
Dole if choose huhuhu, but I won't do that. The houses here are
expensive as 1 would expect in a retirement town. If I choose to
stay I will probably buy 1

I've not met any Brits, I think the immigrants tend to go to the
bigger cities where its easier to find jobs...for a start at
least, this is a provincial town where jobs are harder to find
unless you a specific skill set. There's a lot of passenger
cruise ships this time of year so the tourists from these ships
swamp the town, mainly Aussies with a sprinkling of
Asians/Euros/Brits, so you're more likely to meet tourists than
immigrants

To me North Island looks just like Devon, my favourite UK
county. Beaches, sleepy coastal towns, smallish cities, and
stunning rolling hills & national parks.

Enjoy Tinkles! I am envious.. one of my best friends that I met
while teaching in China is from NZ. I love her accent..haha. She
is now back in southern island somewhere. She said I could visit
her anytime, but it is very far from Canada. Unless I am in Asia
again, I don't think i'll visit.
It looks like a beautiful place though by the pics she posts! So
much nature and outdoor paradise.
