Phuket flooded with Russians

Almost half a million Russians arrived in Phuket in the first
half of this year and more than 9,000 of those were granted
long-stay visas. Locals are unhappy

It certainly makes for an interesting cultural mix. The biggest
downside is the shyte way that many recklessly ride around on
maxiscooters. There were also two westerners killed last week by
a speeding Russian woman at 1am.
Glad we bought our villa at the beginning of this year. Lots of
Russians have discovered how to buy them and prices are shooting
up.

What are foreigners in Thailand allowed to own with regard to
property these days? I always thought no more than an
apartment/condo. Are you saying villas can now be bought? A
villa to me is a house with its own grounds

Lots are setting up shell companies with proxy Thai owners. I
think they'll get burned.
I'm lucky enough to have a part Thai wife who paid for most of
ours, so no problems there :)
