Gawd knows why the police weren't engaged in crowd control.
What a horrible way to go - one minute you're having fun with
your friends, the next minute you're being trampled and/or
crushed in a sea of hundreds of panicking people.

Indeed, a real horror show. I found out this morning, by my
friend who lives near there and was DJ'ing that night on the
street right next to the tragedy.
It is unreal how many people died and how many are in the
hospital. 153 dead, 82 in hospital.
I know that side street and area quite well. I used to party in
Itaewon when I lived there. I checked in with my three friends
living in Seoul today and a few of them were nearby at the time.
One of my friends was DJ'ing on the street next to it, only
found out later when his gf ran in to tell him and they all ran
out, closed the bar down and saw dead people lying on the
streets. Itaewon/Korea will never be the same. I very much blame
the police and lack of crowd control. They were showing on tv,
there were many people also on the main road and no cops
directing traffic. I have been in crowds near that size and let
me tell you it isn't fun at all. What a way to die.. most people
in their 20's and 30's.. so freaking sad.
