       Skating on the Rideau Canal/Winter Scenes

       I went skating on the longest canal in the world recently. It is
       world famous for being able to skate on for a month or two in
       the winter here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I'll see if I can
       pop some photos up.

       If driving a tractor on a frozen canal isn't a sign of
       confidence in the thickness of the ice, I dunno what is.
       Looks good but I'm done with living though winters forever. My
       ideal icey scene is 10 days in a Japanese ski resort before
       quickly returning to my tropical island home. Would be in Japan
       this week doing exactly that if at all possible.

       The ice has to be very thick, I believe it has to be -10 C or
       more for ten days straight and has to be 17 cms thick or
       something like that to open to the public. Some winters it opens
       for a month and some for longer.
       Ya, it was -13 C when these were taken plus the windchill factor
       which made it feel like -20. We also got 60cms of snow this past
       week, so it has been a brutal January. I hear you though on
       being done with winter. I've been thinking more and more of
       going to teach or retire somewhere warm someday.
       You get use to being in a warm climate, I totally get it. Only
       been back in Canada three years and I still don't feel used to
       it. :)
