I've always disliked this overblown patriotic anthem from the
French Revolution composed by Rouget de Lisle while heads were
being lopped off and the first modern dictator, Napoleon, was
waiting in the wings, setting in motion the mechanics of all
revolutions.
I'll go for what I've always considered should be our own
national anthem, I Vow To Thee My Country, here in a
goose-pimple raising version from the Festival of Remembrance:

Well, we'll have to disagree about La Marseillaise, though I
must admit that some of the words, considered soberly and apart
from the music, are a bit iffy.
I agree about "I Vow to Thee...", though: I too would vote for
it for a replacement national anthem. Here's another version:

Have to agree, I Vow To Thee is a beautiful song, set to sublime
music. It makes GSTK sound clunky.

Yes, that's an excellent version.
Let's bear in mind that La Marseillaise is an
ultra-nationalistic, militant call to arms. 'I Vow To Thee My
Country' is certainly patriotic but the message is essentially
peaceful, especially the last verse, which is basically
Christian. What's risible about pompous French nationalism is
that they've lost every battle and war since Napoleon's defeat
at Waterloo in 1815: the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, almost the
First World War in 1917, the swift shameful German conquest of
1940 (not much "Allons enfants de la patrie" there), the
humiliating defeat at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 at the
hands of the Viet Minh insurgents and the loss of the Algerian
War in 1962. So much for 'La gloire'. The fact is that France
has been Britain's ancestral enemy for centuries (Hundred Years
War, Agincourt, Louis XIV's wars, etc. etc.), which only changed
with the rise of German nationalism in the twentieth century as
a common foe.
By the way, Rouget de Lisle (the composer of La Marseillaise)
almost went to the guillotine at the height of the Revolution
but was spared due to his composition. He later died in abject
poverty.
