video saying we are educated and the parents are not and we
should not allow the parents to determine what schools should
teach .This teacher said "society" should determine what was
taught.

To keep this on topic, Catholicism has a long history of keeping
the masses uneducated, poor, and thus subservient to their
strict rules. It's so odd to me that anything Christian (of
Jesus) would think any system of oppression and coercion which
fosters exploitation would be considered godly and right. At
least the current Pope is very aware of this and speaks out
against it, bless him.
I am very surprised that you wrote this last paragraph. It is
absolutely untrue.
" subservient to their strict rules. " like the priest knocking
on doors in Morley, England to get Catholics to go to mass on
Sundays.! That is what my father told me, and he didn't go to
Catholic school, couldn't afford it I expect,.*
Even after the Catholic Emancipation Act was passed, Catholics
did not receive tax money from the government,to build
schools, which was their due. Catholics pay taxes the same as
anyone else.
*My father did not know back in about 1953 after being in the
army whether he was baptized or not, and had to take weekly
lessons on Catholicism for about a year, before baptism.
I followed him into the church by the same method and was
conditionally baptized, for different reasons, as I was C of E
at that time.

I was referring to the thousand or so years before Martin
Luther's 95 Thesis and the ensuing Reformation and
Enlightenment. A thousand years of some pretty horrible
treatment of people resisting their control remains relevant, to
a lot of people, especially when being corrected using
Catholicism as the final authority on any issue.

Martin Luther was no saint. The rest of what you wrote is
debatable.
The Catholic church did fight back at the Council of Trent.
The three of us went to the ll o,clock mass today ,' for the
ashes' and most went to Communion.

I missed that part about 'control', a word of attack not often
used by Protestants to attack the Catholic Church.
Strange you have not mentioned Queen Elizabeth 1,as the
acknowledged expert in controlling her unwilling subjects.

My impression is that no one is using England's monarchy as the
only true model or standard to live by. I've also never heard
anyone justify colonizing other nations, especially with regard
to their treatment of the lower classes.
Your defense of the Catholic Church is different though and all
criticisms posted here are, imho, honestly and rightly exposing
some horrible behavior by the Church as an institution (I refer
to the covering up of the sexual abuse of children.)
Speaking of, I'm reminded you posted somewhere a criticism of
Pope Francis for not condemning priests having sex with other
priests, or something along that line (sorry, can't remember
where you posted this.) But, you didn't give him credit for all
he's said and done to address the sexual abuse of children and
the efforts to cover it up--which has included changing one
Canon law.)

She is having me on and is not serious in discussion.I answered
the best I could earlier.
You yourself ask questions in a mocking way.
You may be next, and I leave the religious questions alone.

She raised serious points about the Catholic religion and you
refuse to engage so she is "having you on"?
No I think it is you that is "having us on" with your inability
to respond to serious questions.
As to this:
You yourself ask questions in a mocking
way
You haven't responded to any of the serious points I made (e.g.
domestic violence/womens ability to leave) so I'm just getting
out the salt so that I can take it out in pinches to respond to
your childish attacks.
You may be next
Scary Leslie.

Leslie, it's very unfair for you to reply to my effort to
address your comment regarding me as me just having you on.
Very unfair and not true. You would have been more kind (and
honest) by simply giving up on the discussion.
(Thank you Andrew, for your defense.)
