That is a moan, Leslie, a strong one. People here moan in the
same way about our current government and, previously,
particularly about Boris Johnson (including those who voted for
him). They moan that the country has been ruined. It's all
happened before and we've recovered - until it happens again.
When Trudeau is replaced, after a short honeymoon period, you
will hear moans about his replacement :-).
Politics is an unpleasant business.
However all of us on here are a lot better off than in many
countries. Not that that helps much but it's worth noting.

According to our CTV news station Canadians are not exactly
thrilled to have a king ruling over them. You can tell the left
wing bias of the poll taken by the enthusiasm with which the
reporters announce the results.
I take the poll with a grain of salt, as with all that CTV or
CBC, of Global TV broadcast. You will have difficulty finding a
reporter who supports the monarchy, or is opposed to abortion,
MAID, or euthanasia,.The majority I fear support the Liberals.

It's not surprising that many Canadians don't want the King of
England to be their titular head of state. There are people
here who don't want that! You don't have to be left wing to be
of that opinion.
The royals go up and down in popularity and, let's face it, QEll
is a tough act to follow. We still have to wait and see how
King Charles shapes up, he hasn't actually done that much so far
though he was a very committed and active prince of Wales.
I seem to remember that you weren't all that keen on them at one
time, Leslie.
As for me, I don't care that much but am happy to have the royal
firm around for the time being. I like history and from that
point of view I find the royals interesting, even fascinating.
Some of them I admire whereas to others I'm indifferent.
This time next week I will watch the coronation on TV, I want to
see who is there and what sort of a time everyone is having. I
hope it isn't boring. I remember watching Queen Elizabeth ll's
coronation on our little TV when I was three and a half so don't
want to miss this one. I very much doubt I'll be around for the
next.

Whether I approve or not of having a king. It would be a
lawyer's nightmare and a legal catastrophe to become a republic
to abolish royalty in Canada. Note . One's opinions do change
over a long lifetime.

Giving an American perspective, I agree with you Lyn that views
on having a monarch as a titular head of state wouldn't
necessarily be a party divider. From what I can tell, it's those
in Parliament who are affecting people's lives the most (similar
to how Congress's laws do here.)

I don't think that a divorced King should be head of the Church
of England.
King Henry V111 started it when he divorced and murdered his
wife,breaking up the Catholic Church in England and calling and
punishing all who disagreed as traitors.
That King followed by Queen Elizabeth 1 led to the troubles, in
Ireland. Of course I know that Oliver Cromwell , was responsible
for that, but ask yourself would Oliver Cromwell have existed or
had the same puritan views if Henry V111 had remained Roman
Catholic?

You've said it, Leslie, the Anglican church was started by a
divorcee.
There was a time when Charles would not have been able to
divorce without renouncing the throne. Those days are over.
There are plenty of divorced people who are devout Christians.
The Church has to meet people where they are now and not take
against them because of what happened in the past. The CofE
generally does that these days and it is what Jesus did.
It doesn't affect you, Leslie, because you are not an Anglican.
