I think it is very unlikely to happen, Leslie, there would be
too much opposition. What happens now with terminally ill
children who are suffering is palliative care and sedation so
they have a painless, peaceful, dignified death, the same as
adults, which is good and kind, but nobody kills them outright.
I believe it will stay that way. Society would not tolerate
putting people down. If a person chooses to commit suicide
there's not much we can do about it but it does mean
hospice-type care (which can be given at home, at least in this
country), is not doing its job.
However we will have to wait and see, be vocal and campaign if
something does not seem right, and vote accordingly.
None of this has anything to do with going to a Coptic Church
service. There is nothing wrong with the Copts and they have
been persecuted at times. It's good to show support for them.

The Coptic Church goes back to the first century, founded by
St.Mark according to legend, and is the largest Christian church
in Egypt and the Middle East. It has constantly undergone
persecution by Muslims in Egypt with members attacked (and often
killed) and their churches burnt down.

Yes indeed, from memory I believe some Christians have not been
over enthusiastic about them in the past. They seem perfectly
all right to me.

Can you be more specific, Lyn? Which disapproving Christians?
And why, despite the Coptic church's first century foundation,
along with those of Alexandria, Antioch, Rome and later
Constantinople, and possible apostolic foundation (Saint Mark)?
Long article but informative and illuminating:

It was a long time ago but I have a memory of it being to do
with the Great Schism. I suppose I could look it up but feel a
bit lazy today. Leslie is likely to know more about it.

It really has nothing to do with the Great Schism of 1054
between the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches, centuries
later, as you'll confirm by reading my link.
In any event, let's not get bogged down in a debate about church
history. Let's return to news from Canada and Trudeau's latest
idiocies. ::)

Charming! I read the wiki link earlier. The reason I was
interested was because Leslie did not seem pleased that Trudeau
went to a Coptic Church. I wanted to know what he thought was
wrong with the Coptic Church. I could have misinterpreted what
Leslie meant. Anyway no matter, we move on.

Why the "charming", Lyn, as if I said something bad? Bit
surprised to be honest, even gobsmacked. I simply pointed out in
normal terms in response to your comment about the Great Schism
that it wasn't related to the Coptic church. What's wrong with
that? Just getting facts right, that's all. Oh well...

Your article left out Recommendation 17, which states: "That the
government of Canada restrict MAID for mature minors to those
whose natural death is reasonably foreseeable."
The inclusion of minors on welfare, disabled children, and
indigenous children simply broadens the scope of children
solicited for these discussions not that these are potential
victims.
It's really important to clarify minors as "mature minors" who
are eighteen and older (draft age-eligibility here in the US.)
Having said this, I wonder how you feel about palliative care
for the elderly who are at the end of life. I've personally
witnessed or known of several deaths where the actual cause was
a big injection of morphine. Anyone opting for hospice care now
will legally have their life ended this way. As far as I can
tell, this is available for all children who have less than
six-months to live.

I do not intend to answer your question Bev, as I have not given
it a lot of thought. On all these current miscellaneous moral
issues I blame our present Pope for not showing leadership, and
in associating with the wrong company, and for being ambiguous
in his speech. Our bishops here who follow the Francis line of
thought can expect early promotion to Cardinal rank. It
happened in Chicago with Cupich being promoted. Now we have a 50
year old Archbishop Leo of Toronto, just appointed from Montreal
to Toronto, and I fear the worst. It is just a thought, I have
no evidence. But our Cardinal Collins left too soon. He wasn't
perfect but he was no Cupich.
