This thread is surely about real devastations, not minor
irritations.

Well said, Lyn.
Frankly Leslie if that minor problem, albeit annoying,
irritating, whatever, is 'devastating' for you, then I do hope
nothing really devastating within the accepted sense of the term
comes your way.

I think that has happened recently, Greg. Check Leslie's posts.
However, microsoft changes are definitely not devastating.

On other threads Leslie has indeed posted about traumatic
experiences, sorry for him of course, but if he wants to play
with the word 'devastating' they should have been posted here on
this thread to bolster his thesis or at least referred to. They
weren't. Period.

in retrospect perhaps the word 'upsetting' to describe the
actions of Microsoft would have been more appropriate.

Yes, or 'annoying' but all over now, Leslie, not a biggy in the
scheme of things. You are gracious.
I was annoyed a couple of days ago because I could not log in
to Ubereats, despite valiantly trying, all because my mobile
phone number and bank card details have changed since I last
used them. To prove I was me, they had to send me a text or
authenticate my bank details and I could not alter either
because unable to log in. In the end I gave up, can use
deliveroo easily enough! Not worth getting upset about.
Back to disasters.

One thing that annoys me every morning when I start the computer
is 'Wavebrowser' appearing at the right hand side of the screen
and I never asked for it and I have to eliminiate about four of
five of these news items before getting down to business. It all
takes time.

Leslie, this thread is not about irritating computer glitches,
but about natural and human-made disasters (I think Greg, who
started the thread, will confirm). Can we please stick to that?

I sometimes yield to rage in response to some of these annoying
aspects of computer access and I'm reminded of the classic scene
in Fawlty Towers where Basil starts thrashing his car with a
tree branch after it wouldn't start, wonderfully irrationally
shouting "You bastard!" (Fortunately, I don't have a branch
handy near my laptop.) Then I realise how fortunate we are to
have, as it were, the world (literally) at our fingertips
despite the daily glitches, so I humbly recant my
outbursts...until the next bloody glitch!
PS. Prepared this post before seeing Steve's, which has left me
devastated. Er, well... ::)

I think 'gobsmacked' would be a more appropriate word, Greg.
