CBC news here in Canada, Toronto, broadcast live shots of Dublin
after 7.a.m. Our time. I remember seeing two buildings painted
green and people walking about. Perhaps the green pubs, if they
were green pubs were not open yet.
Cheers to all, although it is a bit early.
It reminds me of times past stopping on I75 going home from Port
Charlotte one morning. Just after 8 am my wife found a
supermarket store just off I 75 where she bought some special
beer for my son. One of the local young lads serving her. Looked
at her and said. "It is a bit early for that, isn't it". For the
amusement of his mates.
Correction.
The wooden two buildings were bright red in colour with green
stuff on the roofs. It is on again on CTV this time, and dozens
of people are walking around. Cheers whatever the predominent
colour happens to be. This is Dublin today.

I am curious. Is St Patrick actually remembered in any kind of
religious way in Ireland? In America, it seems only about the
color green and drinking way too much.

As I don't think the Romans took Scotland, St. Patrick's birth
could have anywhere on the west coast of England or the west
coast of Wales. That means he wasn't born in Ireland, he was
British.

As Roses says "St.Patrick was of the Catholic religion." The
question the waiter should have asked today would have been, "Is
the Pope Catholic?"

Of course the Pope is a Catholic and a good one at that as he is
trying to bring the religion into the 21st century and rid it of
some of the nastiness which has caused so much harm over the
centuries.

On a visit to Ireland for St. Patrick's Day, Biden said he's not
really Irish as he doesn't drink alcohol. He also cracked that
his relatives in Ireland are not in jail. With jokes like that,
perhaps he should host next year's Oscars. Anything better than
Jimmy Kimmel.

If Biden doesn't drink alcohol he has something in common with
that dreadful excuse for a human, Trump, who also abstains from
alcohol.

I have thoughts about Ecuador this morning after my wife told me
there was an earthquake there and in Peru, this morning. When we
as part of an American tour group visited Ecuador, some years
ago we paid extra for a visit to sleep overnight at a farm house
instead of going to a good hotel like the majority did. The
shower was slow and inefficient, the couple of Japanese fellow
tourists in the next room were flooded out when their shower
broke down and although the Ecuadorians were short of bacon and
eggs for breakfast, we didn't starve but were relieved to be
picked up by bus the following morning to join the main group at
the hotel in the countryside. Remember, we paid extra for this
farm house visit, the hotels visitors paid nothing extra.
What surprised me was the owners of the farmhouse were very
enthusiastic about their services which were far below American
standards. They tried their best and I admire them for being
proud of what they achieved. We did not complain to the tour
operators about quality of service. They will achieve more in
future. As I said it was the enthusiasm of Ecuadorians that
impressed me. They had the right attitude and will undoubtedly
improve in the future. After that visit we took a ship to the
Galapagos Islands to see giant tortoises. There was one English
couple I talked to on the Galapagos portion, who got to the
ship via another tour, and he and his wife were cheerful. He was
a doctor in administration in London working for the National
Health Service.
