Good for you Bev. Here we had five people and six large Cornish
hens for Easter dinner, plus red wine of various kinds. We don't
eat as much or drink like we used to , so there is lots left in
the refrigerator My son and his wife, took home leftovers.
We agree on politics and were silent on religion.
James's. wife works from home and wonders why they put a
management ( Human resources type ) person over actuaries who
from their shared telephone conversations reveals she hasn't got
a clue about actuarial science! That was part of the discussion
at dinner
We had fun too, it wasn't all serious discussion.

Thank God, I have just finished the last personal income tax
return for a relative. However, that person wants to learn how
to do it in future since I won't be around for ever. Good.

It isn't that difficult if you put your mind to it. I have to
be in the mood to do such things.

Normally, it isn't difficult, but if you sold land and buildings
in another Province it is tricky. If you use Turbotax, the basic
software will not suffice.And if you are a corporation you have
to buy their most advanced software which costs $209 which
nearly three times the cost of Basic.
CPA's who earn their living in the business, use different
software.

Nobody is happy with relatives who you help for free. You get a
comment like, "You forgot to include all my income last year and
I was re assessed." My answer is "That is because you didn't
give me your T4A." "Or why isn't my company on a disc.". That is
because I did it manually and mailed it in." Why would I pay
over $200 for one numbered company return.
I give it all up now.With one exception and that is for a poor
relative in Guelph, a recipient of a double lung transplant
whose return I have been doing since 2013 .She gets refunds
every year.
I quit the tax field.

I received by mail this morning a request to attend the U of T
Alumni Reunion , 50th Anniversary Ceremony on Saturday ,June
3,2023 at University College and Convocation Hall where I will
receive a pin (re my B.A. degree).
I am not sure I am going there yet, nevertheless the invitation
is a boost to my morale.

Excellent, Leslie. WIll you be given coffee, lunch or whatever
and can you take your wife? I don't know how these things work
but it would be nice if you could. I hope you meet some old
friends at the ceremony.

I doubt it Lyn, we had different schedules and different
graduation dates. Being the elected Treasurer of A.P.U.S
(Association of Part time Undergraduate Students) was a very
happy time for me. The wine and cheese party a professor of
philosophy arranged for us students one Saturday are among my
happiest memories. Taking a mixed ability class of students in
Mathematics given by a brilliant young professor, the one who in
addition to teaching us 'amateurs' ! taught the few in the class
who were to be the mathematics professors of the future, was
quite an experience. I met the very best and am grateful for the
opportunity.

I think that the older we get, the more our memories mean to us.
Our mind with its memory store is like a cellar full of vintage
wine which we can sample as the fancy takes us, and the bottles
just keep magically refilling.
Apart from that, I've put in a new post on the Worth Sharing
thread which I hope will appeal not only to poetry lovers.
(Mentioned here as some less-frequented threads, like that one,
tend to get overlooked.)
