We have had quite a number of dogs and cats over the years, they
had their uses. Tarantula spiders and snakes are my favourites.
The photo of the spider on my avatar was taken at our previous
property on the keyboard of the computer I had then. I bought my
grandsons a python some years ago and have a photo of it around
my neck like a necklace. ;D I don't wish to have anymore animals
as I was always the one who was in charge of them, and I have
more than enough to do now as my husband's carer.

(If we change Dogs to Pets Roses' and my contribution would
       better fit.)
I have two cats now. Mooji (8) and Tegan (4). Both are rescues
       found when very young (6-3wks).
For the dog thread, I still tear up when I think of losing Lola,
a Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix I volunteered to take on when
Daniel moved to NYC. She was always with me and small enough to
fit into a large purse. ;D
Still can't upload a pic. Says it's too large. Oh, well.

I lost my pug / Jack Russell mix just before Christmas. A little
dog that left a big hole.

Your little friend looks lovely Gwinnie, happy days and long
life to it, and as you said earlier, when they go they leave
       such a void.
I am a dog person, wouldn't know how to be without one

I would love to have another dog, unfortunately work schedules
do not currently permit. I’m working on it though! Just hope cat
       will agree!

We had a nice little tabby cat which lived for 18 years (1987 to
2005), with a very mild temperament. I like cats because they're
so intelligent, independent and clean. I dislike dogs for
various reasons, such as their slavering slime which they spread
all over you when they lick you with their horrible tongues
hanging out as they pant away, their innate sentimentalism
(which I detest in dogs and humans) and the need to clean up
their turds after them (which many people here don't bother to
do given the state of the streets near us.) Our cat as a kitten
went instinctively straight to the litter tray on the first day
here and was licking herself clean regularly thereafter. In
contrast, dogs are dirty buggers and fleas' delight. I can't see
the point in them. They served their purpose in the early times
of hunter-gatherers but they just seem superfluous now, an
       evolutionary leftover.

In that case, you should have creatures which produce food, like
a goat or two, or perhaps chickens - or both! (Milk, cheese and
eggs guaranteed.) All dogs produce is fertiliser. :D
