I am glad he has done the decent thing at last, but doubt he had
any choice but to do so.

Yes, the buck stops at the top. It's a shame because he was very
good indeed but that's life. No doubt, as the rotten stuff
happened abroad, he delegated and thought it was being dealt
with; being the AofC is a very busy job. It's a pity his tenure
had to end this way but that's how the cookie crumbles. I hope
he finds fulfilment from now on.

It happened here in the UK, and apparently Welby had known about
it for a very long time and didn't report the man to the police
as he should have done. Not reporting a crime of that sort to
the police makes one almost as bad as the perpetrator imo.

I read an interview with a son of Justin Welby a little while
ago. Obviously son loves his dad and will support him but I
doubt very much he would lie, it would be easier to just not be
interviewed. He said his father. He said his father very much
regrets not closely following this up, he honestly thought it
had been dealt with. I guessed it was something like that, the
AofC job is so huge; he has to delegate and then move on to the
       next thing.
       A horrible business.
