Yeah, not just in Ireland either. It's nothing new, I can
remember it happening in the 1960s.

Any religious institution facilitates the exploitation of
innocent victims. I remember reading a study years ago that
showed how a large number of pedophiles were associated with
religious groups than not. The very nature of putting one’s
faith in a leader deemed God’s elect facilitates a victim’s
       becoming voiceless, even worthless.

To that I would add another aspect. It seems many pedophiles are
drawn to these religious institutions with young boys as they
are an easy target for their perverted desires and their
activities when discovered sooner or later are hushed up to
avoid the ensuing scandal in a religious institution which
supposedly condemns such activities as gravely sinful. There has
been a similar scandal here in Barcelona and other parts of
Spain involving various Jesuit colleges after investigations
       confirmed suspicions.

       Yes indeed.
Plus residential social workers, school teachers and many more.
The more standing a person has, the easier it is to abuse.

Whilst the Catholic Church is the religious order most people
think of when sexual abuse by the clergy is mentioned, every
denomination is more than likely to have had some paedophile
clergy. Having been touched inappropriately on a number of
occasions as a young teenager by the Pastor of the Pentecostal
church I attended as a child, I can only imagine he believed in
the 'once saved, always saved' garbage. >:(

       I know, it's horrible.
Up to the 1980s nobody wanted to know, indeed many didn't
believe it, including parents and the police. Children couldn't
confide in anyone because they would be dismissed as fantasists.
They'd be told, "How could you say something like that about
       such a good person as.....".
Those 'good people' cultivated friendly acquaintances with
others of high standing who would often back then until the
abuse was proved, at which time they realised they were duped.
We could all be duped, perverts are manipulative and plausible.
All organisations involving children and other vulnerable people
have tightened things up and abuse allegations are taken
seriously now, with properly trained people to investigate.
Some will still slip through the net, they're clever, but far
       less thankfully.
       One of my cousin's vicars was done for touching up choirboys;
she was completely flummoxed by it, had really looked up to him.
I'm sure you remember the very popular, rotund, Liberal MP,
Cyril Smith, Roses. Who would have thought he'd have been a
paedophile, he was such a shining example to all with his church
work and involvement in clubs for disadvantaged boys.
Saville was invited regularly to eat with Mrs Thatcher and to
       Chequers for Christmas one year.
They don't really have friends though, they can't; they exude
bonhomie and have many friendly relationships, people like them,
but they are not real friendships.
Epstein was another one, nobody was really close to him despite
the fact that he was liked and admired; the nearest he got to a
proper relationship was with Ghislane Maxwell, something she has
       definitely lived to regret.

Our radio, TV and most of our daily papers are covering these
new abuse cases, the vast majority of these were of a blatant
sexual abuse but there were other perverts who seemingly got off
on corporal punishment, especially Christian Brothers and many
orders of nuns, they beat children senseless, children with
stutters and special needs were regularly abused with a leather
strap this to beat out the badness or the devil within these
unfortunate children, these straps were about 18 inches long
with a tapered handle the other end could be weighted with coins
to give a better; harder blow to the child, these were used by
all religious teachers nuns, brothers or priests, there haven’t
been many complaints from church of Ireland religious order
       schools.
A lady was on radio today recounting the abuse she and her
sister received from nuns, her sister had epilepsy and when
upset she have a seizure and would go into a trance like state,
the nuns beat her with the strap to get her out of it, when she
cried because they hurt her sister she was stripped to her
underwear and made stand in a window for hours in full view of
the class and from outside the whole school, it was a regular
occurrence and the nuns made examples of any child who was
different or especially if they had come from a broken home or
       were children of unmarried mothers.
A man told of his time with christian pervert brothers, he was
regularly beaten because he had a bad stutter, he was beaten
every day in front of the class to humiliate him, one of his
perverted christian brother perverts used to take him for
special tuition in his room where he was sexually abused for
hours if he cried he was beaten with the strap, years later as
an adult he still has nightmares and doesn’t sleep very well
even after years of counselling, he suffered severe hand and
wrist pains since childhood and a few years ago he went to his
doctor and got x-rayed, the doctor told he had a number of
fractures and broken bones on both hands that had never healed
       properly.
The Irish Catholic Church has never admitted or acknowledged
this awful period of abuse by its own people, when they were
forced to pay compensation they sold lands and houses worth
millions and took the money out of Ireland, then claimed poverty
and got away with paying pittances.
There hasn’t been 1 that is one school in Ireland where the
church had teachers of either sexes that didn’t have abusers, if
enough complaints were made they were moved into another school
in different parts of the country after a few months, some were
sent to so called mission schools around the world and continued
       their abuse unhindered.

We are still waiting on the Catholic Church to give up all those
abusers still living in cloistered accommodation in church
houses and country retreats, protected and well looked after,
all paid for by the Irish taxpayer

It's all too horrific for words.
Unfortunately none of it surprises me.
