You don't now that they are ultra nationalistic, and not simply
hooligans who think they can get away with it. You are just
plugging in words to cover things you don't understand . You
call it something and it sticks.
Covering a lack of understanding by calling these hooligans
other names is very common in England and to a lesser extent
here in Canada. In my view hooligans do not understand or even
care to understand the meaning of Right Wing or Left Wing.
And we use words improperly as labels.

       I wholeheartedly agree, Greg.
People seem to have forgotten that the current spate of riots
started because of misinformation about the perpetrator of the
Southport shootings. A rumour was put out that he was a Muslim
with links to terrorist organisations. Nothing could have been
further from the truth. However the rioters then decided to
protest about illegal immigrants, asylum seekers, legal
immigrants and even their children who were born British.
They attack hotels, police stations and mosques, drag people out
of cars if they are not white. A paramedic on a bicycle was
attacked, his skull fractured. He is in hospital and will
hopefully recover (he's white). Familes are afraid to leave
their homes to go to work, especially if their skin is brown.
More than four hundred rioters have been arrested but still the
lies are propagated, whipped up by the lies of Robinson, Farage
and, now, Elon Musk. We'll find out more about the characters
who riot when they go to court and are charged but one thing is
certain, they are not thinkers, they are ignorant.
On this thread there are posts which give false information, eg
British school leavers do not have opportunities. We know they
do, many opportunities, a lot more than when I left school.
People do not do research, they read something and choose to
believe it because it aligns with their own xenophobic
tendencies. It disgusts me. We do not own a country, we are
fortunate to be here but it could have been different.

Firstly, I'm repeating my post (a) so others don't keep having
to refer back tothe previous page and (b) because you haven't
'quoted' it in your post, normal if you start another page.
"They're labelled far-right because they are
ultra-nationalistic, white supremacist, xenophobic and use
violence, like Oswald Mosley's fascist thugs of the '30's. Many
of them have swastikas tattooed on their arms, too. As for the
social media, they're not accused of being the primary cause of
the riots but of their rapid spread due to instant widespread
communication. Hooliganism is just their modus vivendi but their
core ideas are fundamentally fascistic. That they are too
cretinously unintelligent not to know the meaning of right wing
is irrelevant (or the better term, far right.) Everything about
them indicates that is exactly what they are. (I like to define
       my terms...)"
Now to respond to yours. Of course they're ultra-nationalistic
with their waving of Union Jacks and many pertaining to
far-right organisations. What more does it take? You talk of a
lack of understanding on my part, but if you can't see the
reality of it, then you clearly have no idea about what's really
going on. To just dismiss these fascistoid thugs as mere
hooligans is just ignoring all the evidence (not just opinions
or supposed misuse of language.) Were their forerunners,
       Mosley's fascist thugs, just hooligans?
You said: "In my view hooligans do not understand or even care
to understand the meaning of Right Wing or Left Wing."
You've clearly not even considered what I said about that
earlier, just repeated what you asserted in response. Again,
it's irrelevant whether they understand such terminology or not.
It's what they clearly represent that matters.
Thanks Lyn. I prepared this before I saw your post but I'll let
it stand. Do read Lyn's post, Leslie.

I saw that post, Greg, and agree with it.
Is it really worthwhile banging our heads against a brick wall?
People believe what they want to believe if it aligns with their
own opinions (I already said that :-).

No, not if a person will not consider serious, thoughtful and
well-researched points made by someone else and just doggedly
cling to their own views and ideas instead. I'm sure most of us
would concede that we can be wrong at times, which should be
obvious. Nobody is right all of the time.

British school leavers in the past did not have the opportunity
to do what they wanted. One example from my own experience is
that you were too old to become an apprentice if you were 16 and
not 15. That sorted out the grammar school boys aged 16 from the
15 year olds who did not attend grammar school. There was some
       union support for this position.
Now, that is from memory only.
I know the excuse to riot was the murder of two young girls in
Southport. We assume we know that misinformation by 'social
media' about the origin of the accused. What we don't know, or
at least I don't know is the social media in question, and where
can we find it. Was it tiktok, X, or something else.
Few things are checked out to their source by the average man.
We rely too much on what those in the news business tell us.
They have their own axe to grind.

Greg, I think we have established that some people do not bother
to read posts properly, they may skim them. There is more than
one poster who does that, one is on here often and the other,
       not so much.
Far right forums, of which there are many, including the dark
web, are used to incite riots. Also Twitter, facebook,
individuals like Tommy Robinson and his EDL cohorts, with
contributions from the likes of Farage, and now Musk, stirred
       people up.
No doubt they chanted, "We want our country back".
I wish this thread did not have that title. It's inflammatory.
For one thing nobody owns a country. We are where we are, I'm
content here but if I was somewhere else I daresay I would make
the best of that. We live our lives and then we depart, it's
fruitless being het up about who owns a country because it
belongs to no-one, it's just home for many.
There would be little fuss if those currently targeted by
rioters were white. People bent over backwards to accommodate
women and children from the Ukraine a while back, some are now
lumbered with lodgers who won't leave because to do so would
incur so much expense! That despite the fact that they have
gone back to Ukraine for a week or so here and there to see
       family.
People think they are special because of their white skin, even
if they are poor, semi-literate and ignorant. That is white
privilege. I have news for them, we are not special, we are
fellow human beings and skin colour of any shade does not enter
into it (including Eastern Mongolians though I've never
       knowingly met anyone from there).
Things change, that is life and we have to get over it.

Yes, it appears that the massive turnout of anti-rioters, fed up
with all the mayhem and violence, has quelled any attempts by
the mobs to launch another night of chaos. Now, on social media,
they're denying that there was ever any intention to attack
migrant centres or other associated entities, adding lying to
their list of misdemeanours. Hopefully, the counter-protests
will continue until all the steam has gone out of the thugs and
they can return to their other favourite activities, such as
       picking wings off flies.

TikTok and X are not news sources as such. They are similar to
Facebook. They just offer different format for people to connect
and share their content. FB offers a lot of space for prose and
also videos and pictures. X only allows about 100 words per
post. TikTok is primarily video content - where people upload
their own material up to 3mins. content creators may also upload
pictures but video is the bread and butter. Instagram is mainly
for pictures that also allows short videos. Telegram is similar
       to WhatsApp.
I read on the BBC that an independent website, calling itself a
news site, but is effectively an aggregator of crime news,
disseminated wrong information about the Southport tragedy. I
think this may be why the judge released the defendant’s name. I
will look for the link to the BBC report and post it here later.
