I am aware of that, in exceptional cases up to about 20 weeks,
no longer, imo.

I agree with BR that it should be 20 weeks except for medical
emergency or a few other rare circumstances, but it is in fact
24 weeks in law.
On the other hand, the requirement for two doctors' consent
should be scrapped, and it should be a lot easier to get an
abortion in the first trimester.

I didn't know 'two doctors' ruling was still the rule. I
suppose, if an abortion requires a clinic or hospital admission,
two doctors would be involved anyway, the GP who refers and the
specialist. However GPs and sexual health clinics can provide
the medication for medical terminations without having to refer
to someone else.
For terminations of pregnancy after 24 weeks gestation there do
have to be exceptional circumstances, for example, if the
mother's life is at risk or the child would be born with a
severe disability. I would add if the pregnancy resulted from
rape and was not diagnosed until late which does happen. I've
been told that is a very grim procedure.

I thought a topic could only be locked by admin, obviously not.
I suppose someone could press the wrong button .... somewhere
:-).
No further news here about abortion protests but I did notice a
headline saying that abortions have been banned for pregnancies
over six weeks gestation in Iowa. That is by dates, in reality,
it means no more than a four week old embryo. Many people
wouldn't even know they are pregnant at that stage.

No, there are no buttons anywhere on our screens which
facilitate locking a thread (and I've checked several times) so
there can't be a "wrong button" for us. Only Admin can lock (and
unlock) threads so if not Steve in this case presumably it was
Val, perhaps for some of the content.
Anyway, on with the thread and I refer others to the rest of
your post above. I'd just comment that the far-right riots have
dominated the news media lately and probably pushed other
protests into touch for now.

It may have been me - it's easy to do it inadvertently when
moving the cursor across the "lock" button (which I've got).

It's easily done, I think you did the same once before or it
could have been Val; whatever, no harm done. Before I moved I
did similar on a grocery order and ended up with seven 2L
cartons of filtered semi-skimmed milk :-). I managed to have
six of them collected by the delivery driver, having pleaded my
poor anxious pensioner status, but I was horrifed when they
arrived, should have had a good look in the bags and refused
them at delivery really but I don't like keeping the drivers
hanging about on doorstep.
Back to termination of pregnancies. Atm, I have nothing to add
to my previous post.
