Focusing mainly on statistics and not anecdotal evidence, a core
reason behind the increase in gun violence and stockpiling
high-powered weapons in America is rooted in fear of being
victimized by those deemed a foreign enemy. Pick your enemy de
jour.
The rub is, how reasonable is the fear? By far, the largest
demographic amassing weapons in America are Whites—-by far. The
same is true for those most responsible for mass shootings. And
Whites here are the most targeted with media hype about foreign
threats.(The most sinister is Christian media creating fear of
disastrous consequences because of LGBTQ and abortion rights.)
One of the most telling in recent events that supports this is
the uptick on White-on-Asian violence that happened after Trump
deemed COVID as the “China virus.” (This was particularly
evident in America with the Japanese after Pearl Harbor.)
Having said that, most of the mass shooters in America are White
males. All, however, suffered some kind of alienation from
society or were rejected in a way that sent them towards a
sinister desire to act out.

Here's the Second Amendment to the US Constitution:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a
free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall
not be infringed."
Incredibly, this was written into the Constitution in 1791 at a
time when the original states feared an armed intervention by a
federal army, and presumably by extension a foreign army. It
hardly seems appropriate today and should be drastically
amended, but the powerful NRA (National Rifle Association) has
always blocked that.
On the second point, these lone wolves with a grudge against
society are largely able to act out their murderous desires due
to their easy access to ballistic weapons, many of which should
be restricted to the armed forces, such as powerful assault
rifles.

It has always baffled me that there are Constitutional lawyers
who argue that this supports gun ownership by just anybody when
it clearly states a “well regulated militia.”
On your second point, I 100% agree.

I remember our second daughter and husband being totally shocked
when on holiday in the US, with their two sons, about 15 years
ago, to discover you could buy guns in the Walmart store almost
as easily as a loaf of bread!
Just out of interest Beverly, do you own a gun?

Quite so; it's just an exercise in casuistry. In any event, each
state has its own form of militia anyway in the shape of the
SDF's (State Defense Force) which are military units under the
sole authority of state governments.

This from the BBC, there are also other articles which are

I was having a sort of conversation with someone on FB
concerning the government, immigration, recent riots - you name
it. I have remained courteous, he hasn't. He said that I
should get my facts straight, the Southport shooter was an Asian
Muslim who was under surveillance by MI6 (he put M16), because
of his associations with terrorism.
That is one of the rumours circulated which inflamed the
rioters.
We know nothing could be further from the truth. However the man
with whom I was trying to have dialogue has made up his mind and
will not be budged.
You couldn't make it up.

You ain't kidding but he is far from the only one, several
infiltrate FB groups and they never miss an opportunity to spout
their hate-filled agenda. Their favourite groups are those
frequented by older people, like me, who reminisce about things
like fashion and music, and some talk about poor housing
conditions, school discipline, war time deprivations (which I
managed to miss being born 4.5 years after the end of WW2), etc.
None of it is nasty but these strange right wing extremists
barge in, often semi-literate and throwing out insults right and
left. They talk about the streets being unsafe (there have
always been unsafe, crime ridden areas in my memory, and before
my time - Dickens depictions spring to mind), with youths
rampaging, wielding machetes, raping girls and women and you
name it. Sometimes they post very unpleasant AI pictures.
Anyone who politely disagrees is labelled a 'hater of our
country'.
For some reason they believe the current Labour government is
corrupt, especially Keir Starmer.
They think every Muslim is like that fanatical Finsbury Park
mosque cleric, Abdul Al Hamsa something, who was banged up,
deported and is now doing life, without hope of parole, in
America. Interestingly, he is an Egyptian who converted to
Islam, married an English woman, but that's another story.
They are not the sort of people you would invite to dinner or
want to live next door to.
