Lebanon crisis

It looks as though there will be an imminent escalation in the
ongoing conflict between Israel and the Islamic terrorist
organisation, Hizbollah, a proxy of Iran based in Lebanon after
a rocket fired by them hit a playing field in a town in the
Golan Heights killing at least 12 young people and injuring many
more. Israel has promised 'a strong response' to the attack, but
the fear now is of a wider war breaking out between Israel and
Hizbollah with regional consequences.

Things seem to be hotting up. From an up to date news report:
"France has told its citizens to leave Iran “immediately” amid
fears that the Islamic Republic is preparing to attack Israel in
response to the assassination of the leader of Hamas.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah was also preparing for a wider escalation to
ignite, moving its military equipment into central Beirut,
according to Al-Hadath, a Saudi news outlet.
An official within Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said that Iran
was considering targeting Tel Aviv in revenge for Haniyeh’s
assassination in Tehran."
Let's just hope that much of that is sabre-rattling bluster.

An eerie calm seems to have settled over the area, a few token
exchanges of rocket attacks notwithstanding. Iran has said it
will take its revenge on Israel in its own good time and that
has given rise to the guessing game of just when, and in what
manner. As it's hard to see Iran backing down now, some kind of
conflict seems inevitable sooner or later.

Apparently, Keir Harmer has phoned the Iranian president
expressing his concern over the possibility of an attack on
Israel, which is foreshadowed in this extract from an article
this morning:
"The call came as the Israeli military was on high alert on
Monday night amid reports Iran had ramped up preparations for a
large-scale attack. The White House said that both the US and
Israel expected Iran and its proxies in the Middle East,
including Hezbollah in Lebanon, to launch an assault this week.
Iranian missile and drone units are reportedly being prepared
for a direct attack on Israel in retaliation for the
assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas leader, in Tehran
last month."

How powerful are the Iranians. Don't they know that the U.S.A.
will never let them take over Israel? this attack by Iran may
lead to World War III.and its own destruction.

They have a huge, well-equipped army in the shape of the
Revolutionary Guard as well as other conventional forces,
including a navy. They're near to producing a nuclear bomb.
Their objective is not to 'take over' Israel but to destroy it.
Israel has a deterrent in its missile capacity as well as an
estimated 60 nuclear bombs.
Whatever the scale of a war in the Middle East, it wouldn't
result in World War Three as it wouldn't involve the superpowers
(the USA and Russia) so it wouldn't be a global war. However,
the effect on the world economy would probably be dire.

Further to the above (first comment):
General Hossein Salami*, the chief of Iran's Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared "Our strategy is
to erase Israel from the global political map."
(* Here he is. Friendly looking fellow:

/>)
Meanwhile, the 'Supreme Leader', Ayatollah Khameini, recently
declared to a youth gathering:
"You young people should be assured that you will witness the
demise of the enemies of humanity, meaning the degenerate
American civilization, and the demise of Israel."
Looks pretty unambiguous to me.
