       US presidential election
By: gwinnie Date: June 18, 2024, 7:23 am

Im not following the news much these days, but certain issues
stand out. On here, and I can’t find my post now, I previously
spoke out in favour of Biden, not believing the concerns around
his faculties. I saw a clip last night, which I actually found
quite moving in its humanity, where Obama guided Biden off a
stage they had both appeared on. Sadly, Biden acutely needed the
guiding. The humanity was in the natural, warm and matter of
fact way Obama did this. I now believe Biden should withdraw
from the election. I so wish Michelle would run. It’s not my
country, but they play such a huge role on the international
stage that I do feel invested! But perhaps the US is still not
       ready for a female President..

On Michelle Obama, here's an extract from a recent NBC News
       article. It sounds definitive:
In a statement to NBC News, the former first lady’s office tried
to rein in imaginations on the right and the left, making it
clear her 2024 plans don’t include running for office.
“As former First Lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times
over the years, she will not be running for president,” said
Crystal Carson, director of communications for her office. “Mrs.
Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala
       Harris’ re-election campaign.”
Sources familiar with the discussions say she intends to assist
the Biden campaign this fall, as she did four years ago. But as
in 2020, her engagement is likely to be fairly limited compared
to that of her husband, reflecting both her other commitments
and her long-standing reluctance to re-enter the political fray
       full time, the sources said.

Given the torture her husband endured, I support and understand
M Obama’s decision to live her life unmolested.
Re Biden, I agree with you gwinnie. I was disappointed he ran
the first time. He’s definitely a good man with lots of
integrity, but he’s not a good leader. Unfortunately, the
political system of campaigning for office has become rigidly
inflexible and no longer represents the will of the majority.
It’s all a $$ vs $$ game now. I feel so disenfranchised now. All
I am to my party now is $$.

I'm glad the Obamas are having a good life now, they deserve it.
I admired them both, remember Michelle Obama when she came here
and spoke so well to young school kids, teenagers, she was
       inspirational.
None of our politicians, here and in the USA, are all that
inspirational at the moment, though some are good people.
I've no idea how things will pan out.

I was scrolling down and found this thread. Could it be
combined with the 'Ameerican election' thread as it is about the
       same thing?

No - you can remove your own post(s) by clicking on the 'X
Remove' above your post to the right, as I've done with my last
       post (and this one later.)

I don't want to remove my posts, just thought the two threads
could be combined. Anyway, let's leave it as it is unless
       someone else wants it.
This was on facebook from a couple of days ago so recent, I am
still not optimistic but it is quite encouraging. It is an
absolutely vile FB group but this is an article from a
       publication.

You said you agreed with my comments (now eliminated) so I don't
know now why you want to keep your comments, which are pointless
now, or maintain this now out-of-date thread. As said, we
already have an ongoing thread about the elections so continuing
on this thread would seem redundant. Moreover, you've put a
further comment and link on this thread rather than the current
one, which I find baffling and is going to lead further posters
to continue on this thread instead of the other, losing the
       middle content and continuity there.
Does that mean you want to continue the discussion here alone
       and forget the other?
