The Beatles

Somebody mentioned The Beatles today. I vaguely have some memory
of having a chat with Paul McCartney, his pop group did a tour
of Guernsey and Jersey in 1963, when I was 13. I am not quite
sure where I met him, not at the concert at Candie Gardens in St
Peter Port, as music isn't my thing. He was the best looking of
the four, imo, and seemed like a pleasant enough chap.

When I was young and first heard of the Beatles I thought they
were 'decadent' and suggested an immoral life style for young
people. I admit I was a loner, living in an area of working
class in which Ifelt I did not belong. I wanted to work my way
up and out of it. Their music I did not like. I was studying to
be a Cost Accountant . ACWA* (HQ 63 Portland Street,London) and
working in Leeds office jobs mainly. One time I worked in
Wakefield.
The last time I went to England I visited the Liverpool area
where they were born and brought up. I can now tolerate their
music. I was told that the Beatles were not all working class,
which surprised me. If any were Catholic I did not know of it.
*I passed the Part 1 of the ACWA exams which got me a job in
Canada.

McCartney and Harrison were both raised as Roman Catholics while
Lennon and Starr were from Anglican families, although they
didn't continue into adulthood. They all became followers of
that giggling Indian guru fraud, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, but only
Harrison persisted with Hinduism thereafter. As for social
class, Lennon and McCartney could be considered lower middle
class and Harrison and Starr working class, but the dividing
line between English social classes can be fuzzy.

Considering all the many Catholics and other denominations, who
claim to be Christians, but lead immoral life styles, like
sexual abusing children, your religion, or lack of it, doesn't
necessarily make you a good or bad person.

I agree the line between English social classes can be fuzzy, as
my mum and dad were definitely working class. But, my
grandfather ( a foreman in the council and captain of the local
Church of England cricket club plus my uncle who was a co-op
manager were not.)
Interesting. I did like the "yellow Submarine" later on in life!

I looked for the classic English social classes sketch ("I look
down on him...") with John Cleese and the two Ronnies, but I
couldn't find it. Anyone else have a try?

As you said, no it is not the classic sketch. That has the three
I mentioned representing the upper, middle and lower classes
with differing heights part of the joke.

There is a lot of British humour in that recording. I like the
Accountant bore one of the 2 Ronnies. And I could watch them all
day, but I have to catch a plane at five minutes before
midnight.
