       Return Of The Jedi
By: Gregory Date: June 3, 2024, 7:43 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hello fellow Thaddeans,
I'm now back home again after a month in hospital (two, in
fact.) I was admitted after a medical exam following weeks of
steady decline and growing weakness left me enfeebled. It turned
out I had cardiac arrythmia and severe anemia, plus much of my
body swollen with fluid (hence the 'leak' in my right leg and
some incontinence; in short, a walking (better 'sitting')
medical disaster. I was admitted first to a first-rate hospital
on my private insurance and declared cured of both major
       pathologies after over two weeks.
I was then transferred to a public health rehabilitation centre,
which was awful (probably on a par with the NHS.) It was
fortuitously just ten minutes from my home, so with the help of
my friend Xavi and a new wheelchair, I made a clandestine escape
and am now enjoying home comforts. I get around with one of
those Zimmer frames on wheels and I'm doing all the exercises I
was doing in the last hospital. I won't be walking unaided for a
while but that's no real problem. Patience, books music and my
own choice of food (Oliver Twist wouldn't have asked for seconds
       at the last hospital.)
I lost a lot of the weight I'd put on in recent years, in part
due to no alcohol (beer was a
regular part of my life), dropping from 115 kilos to 85, so I've
shed 30 kilos (and the 'leak' in my right leg has stopped.
My computer appeared to have stopped working when I got back but
computer wizard Xavi managed to reactivate it. However, it's old
and shaky so it may well soon go on the blink again, making
further posts problematic. If so, you can reach me at my email
number as I'm still getting emails
       on my mobile phone.
Ok, I hope you're all well and looking forward to the General
       Election (just joking...)
       Greg

Absolutely De-Lighted to see you back, Greg. I am sorry you had
such long hospitalisation an but it sounds as though it was
worth it. I hope you stick to whatever instructions you have
been given. Roser must be pleased to have you home, I hope she
       is keeping well.
       Lyn xx

       Hi Greg,
It is good news that you are back home again. :)
Take care of yourself and do follow the instructions you have
       been given by the meds.
       All the best,
       Blueroses

Glad to see you are back home, cured of your ailments and now
better fed and rested. I dread going into hospitals myself. I
think of the tainted blood supply that isn't what it should be,
and the invitation because of my age to take MAID.
which will be offered if anything serious occurs. When my wife
was recently at Sunnybrook hospital the young doctor asked if
       she wanted to be resussitated!

Welcome back, Greg. Very relieved you are doing better. You’re
being a real trooper, as my mother would say. It’s impressive
how dedicated to recovery you are. Bravo! Prayers continue here.
It’s so good seeing your post.

Thanks all for your kind, encouraging messages. Just to clear
one thing up, though. There weren't any instructions from the
meds because none of them (or the nurses) knew I was leaving for
fear that they might refuse to discharge me as my treatment
wasn't complete. My friend Xavi arrived with my new wheelchair
and we slipped away at a quiet time, ostensibly to go to the
       cafe downstairs if stopped.
The physiotherapy sessions lasted less than an hour, the rest of
the day spent confined to a wheelchair or bed in the room I
shared with an old man (all the patients were elderly and
treated patronisingly by the bossy nurses.) They cured my
pathologies but the only cure for total boredom was to flee.
Now, I can perform the same exercises at home right through the
day whenever I like and with my Zimmer walker I can walk with
its aid as much as I like, impossible in the hospital. I did
phone the hospital later to explain and they were naturally
annoyed (and I was probably the first patient to do this) but
       that didn't bother me unduly.
Now, I think i'll make a nice cup of tea with a few Belgian
       chocolate chip biscuits. Yum...

Delighted to see you back. Re, computers: laptops are not
       prohibitively expensive.

Thanks! As for laptops, my pal Xavi has a friend who is a whizz
kid with computers and their technology. He can apparently
obtain one at a reduced price and set it up for me here at home.
He's a busy fellow seemingly, though, and the time gap between
this one crashing and a new one being installed could be a
       while.

Good to see you back Greg, and happy you’re doing so well. At
least you told the hospital afterwards that you did a runner. I
kind of wish I could have been a fly on the wall (a Spanish
       speaking one of course) :D

What a cheerful post, Leslie :-). Everyone is asked if they
want to be resuscitated, I carry a piece of paper saying I don't
in most circumstances. I have no idea what you mean by 'tainted
blood', it goes through strict checxking procedures before being
put in someone else, more than ever since the 1980s, and most
people go through life without needing a transfusion. However,
many lives are saved by transfusion. Nobody is going to assist
you to die, Leslie, the chances are you would be well looked
after and kept comfortable while you live. Don't be so morbid.
Greg, good on you for making an escape, I would have done the
same in your circumstances. There comes a time when being in
hospital is doing more harm than good.
