Promising to combat crime a new President, a woman with a Jewish
surname has been elected. That is the good news, Mrs Sheinbaum
is the first woman to be elected President of Mexico.

That may be an understatement. There's a growing consensus
amongst an increasing number of politicians, pundits, experts in
foreign affairs, commentators, historians, etc. that we may be
heading for a global conflict, a 1914 or 1939 moment, involving
Russia and China, both with territorial ambitions (Russia's
western borderlands and Taiwan respectively) and huge, modern
armed forces, and also involving Iran and North Korea. One
element in this is the perceived weakness by its enemies of
Western (ie mainly NATO's) military capacity to repel such
aggression, with various of their armed forces in weak, pared
down conditions (the UK a notable example) and unable to sustain
a prolonged conflict.
