Dull, dry, not much wind, damn cold. Tried to snow earlier, but
it didn't come to anything.

It did snow here but not for long and didn't settle. It was
very cold.

Quite bright today, temp 3degC at the moment but not windy and
doesn't feel all that cold out.

We had snow and rain yesterday, Tuesday. More snow is expected
Wednesday.
I am under the weather at present. I got up before 1 am to ajust
the humidity level of the gas furnace and turn it down.
I should have done it a few days ago.

With the current cold weather in the UK, people will remember
the horrible winter of 1962/63. I certainly do being 15 years
old at the time and getting up and going to school every morning
was a real trial. Here's an extract from an article in today's
Telegraph:
"Beginning abruptly before Christmas 1962, it was the coldest
winter for 200 years. Only the winters of 1683/84 and 1739/40,
aka The Great Frost, were chillier. With temperatures lower than
minus 20C, the sea froze. Explosives were used to break up the
ice on key waterways. Pneumatic drills dug up carrots and
potatoes and electric current melted the ice in frozen water
pipes. It went on and on, that winter. Snow stayed on the ground
for 60 days and it rarely went above freezing for three months.
Unlike today, schools didn’t close."

Yes - I was 11, and remember icicles hanging off gutters, and a
huge snow-drift against railings near my house. My friends ad I
larked about in it, and I got my clothes soaked, to the
considerable displeasure of my mum.
Today is bright, sunny and cloudless, no breeze worth talking
of, and cold, but not colder than was once normal for
mid-January.
